Nope, but I wonder if there was a tie up between Addis (numerous variations) and David Ward at some point?

JS Addis died around 1870 I think and the firm in Sheffield was acquired by Ward (although Ward & Payne) by then. Do you have masonic stamps (compasses) or crossed hammers and anvil stamps on them by any chance. Might give a lineage clue. I am not knowledgeable here, but I did read some history of Ward tools a few years ago. Could be totally red herring.

I suspect that there is no long history behind the name, and that this is some cheap import badged up with a name no-one has heard of. It seems only to be stamped on the handles: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/429117885577147

Tsk. I assumed we were seeking info beyond that which a search would reveal. Doesn't anyone Google* any more? Worth doing too, because on the second page of results I found the Chisel-Toothed Kangeroo Rat. Doesn't answer Mike's question, but it is cute. Not sure of its carving ability though.
