• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

My lad's planning to book a long-haul flight later today, some fares have shot up and others not so much. I told him that I think I remember a past fuel crisis in which airlines put up prices after booking and payment.
Can anyone confirm that they can do that, or otherwise? I just did a search online and found one clause where an airline made provision for such increases in its T&Cs, but that was cited over a decade ago.

I'm encouraging him to save the trip (Japan) for another year and stick to Europe for now, but an answer to the above would help the decision.

Thanks
C

If you browse plane or package details, do it using the privacy function, or their cookies spot what you are up to and the price rises every time you access the sites. Also look for dates well ahead otherwise they know that you are getting desperate and uplift the costs.

Thanks Lurker, I've passed that on to him. So far it seems ok - I did the same searches as him just now and we're getting the same prices, and he's been doing a lot of hunting. He's using privacy now.

Can't help with the airline fares I'm afraid, but your advice re Japan is sound. We have a trip booked there for 2023 but it seems unlikely that they'll 'open up' so it looks like we'll be looking at 2024 - Rob

Thing is, he's 18 so clearly knows better than you or me, Rob :-)

Do please tell him that Japan is a really fantastic place to visit. Adrian Temple is a big fan as is Rog S so it's worth his time looking at the country in some detail before he travels - Rob

That's really helpful - thanks Robert.
Rob - he's been interested in Japan for a few years now, hopefully it'll meet his expectations. But they haven't booked yet, so I'm still going on about how wonderful Europe is, too...

A useless but interesting factoid I learned the other day is that the global ticketing system for airlines was developed from the NORAD early warning rader software to detect and track missile launches.
