• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

And so a new week begins...

Wife had a dentist appointment this morning so walked up to my car as son's was parked outside the house.

Some little so and so - having had a few too many I'm assuming - did this...

Reported to the police for a crime (incident!) number and then spent about an hour trying to get help from the CORRECT department of the RAC insurance to get a resolution. It's marked as a 'priority' BUT could take 48hrs (or more) to get a 'local' (Southampton! ) Autoglass replacement to fit...

Ah well! £60 out of my pocket for the excess payment which is much better than the £450 + labour if I didn't have glass cover.

Nah! Ive bagged it for them but... "short on resources" - but if *I* want to ask the neighbours if they've CCT footage... has to meet certain criteria though 🤔 🤣😎.

Finished clearing away the remaining fragments and vacuuming it out of the back - and front of the inside of the car - and making it as weatherproof as I could with a clear wheelie bin bag he car at about 2:15 pm.

Wednesday morning, between 8am & 10am is the time slot for getting replacement fitted 🙏👍. Now for something to eat and drink 😊

We get the odd occurrence of something now and then BUT times are changing and there's very little respect for anyone else's property these days. No chance of catching these booked up/drug assisted (most likely) idiots driving along at speed along one of the main roads in and out of the town.

So this wasn't even a smash and grab then? Lost for words. Must have been sickening.
I was far more angry than sickened. My thoughts are that the idiots where driving up to go to McDonald's after a few beers (and such) and threw the bottle as they approached the cars - smashing my rear window.

It's recycling day today... glass, plastic, cardboard/paper stuff. I can't even see a funny side like 'trying to get the bottle into a recycling box' as an excuse... 4½ hours of my precious time wasted cleaning up after these clowns 🤡 🤨 - let alone £60 out of my pension... 🤨

I'm really sorry for you Frank. I had my car done over several times in the UK, it's heartbreaking.
I had a very nice Mazda. One Friday night I was at a fund-raising barn dance thingy in Ilkeston, came out to find my car gone. I was eventually found in a canal in Rotherham.
I lent my car to a friend while I went on holiday. She came back one day to find the radio ripped out.
I had someone run into the back of my car while it was sttationary and did more damage than the value of the car.
I had my car stolen from outside my house, joy-ridden about town, smashed a wheel, they chaanged the wheel and carried on until it was a mangled pile. The police knew who was responsible, of course, but there is the little matter of hard evidence.
My wife's car was parked in a country lane while we went for a walk. We came back to a smashed window and my new expensive shoes gone. We found the socks a quarter of a mile down the road.

One of the many nice things round here is that there is very little crime. I have heard of two cases of theft since we;ve been here, both before our time. One was a burglary in a neighbouring village a few years ago, the other wsa a large pile of firewood up in his wood that he had cut and stacked. He came to move it one day and it was gone. And that's it. There's not even any graffiti in the local town, despite there being many closed down properties.

OK, I was mugged a couple of months ago, but that was in Limoges, which is a large city with many inner city problems as in the UK. And graffiti, lots of graffiti.

But here, everything is very civilised (if a bit backward - welcome to the 1950s...).

I've had a few trying moments @Steve so you have my sympathies on what you've had over the years - horrendous experiences to have to go through.

This one was, I'm believing, some mindless individual as a passenger in another's car, window down, having had a few drinks (and whatever else) on their way up to the local McDonald's... mindlessly threw the bottle which went into my back window instead of the car behind - or even one of the gardens behind the wall I'm parked against...

What's getting to me now is that, having informed cops of the bottle IN the car, they seem to dismiss it for evidence for forensic tests: fingerprints - and/or DNA as the bottle had no cap attached, was empty so must have been drunk from! Their excuse (the cops)... "limited resources"!

I've had other incidents... one being hearing an loud discussion between a man and woman at around 1.30am - the woman trying to calm the guy down. Next I hear a loud bang but think nothing of it... until leaving for work in the morning and not being able to get into my car. The idiot had kicked/punched (?) the car wing by the door hinge side and dented it in - hence not being able to open the door.

Another time, on holiday in Cornwall, a young driver decided to pull out from a side road just as I got there - and tried to blame me saying I was speeding... No way was I 🤨. That experience made me - and the wife - very nervous of cars pulling out from the side roads from either side. Even to this day and that's maybe 12~15 years ago now.
