• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I've just received a roll of 3M blue masking tape, and it turns out it's not the same as the blue masking tape made of crepe paper which I am running out of. Do these things have names, or serial numbers, or something else to identify them? My local builder's merchants has stopped stocking them, so I am reliant on buying online.

No, that's the one I just bought in error, Jim. There's no "give" in it.

This isn't for painting, Eric, but various temporary holding jobs in the workshop. It's surprising how often it gets used:

I use el cheapo tape from In-Excess (80p a roll) for 'normal' workshop activities which doesn't need to be stretchy; the only time I need really good stuff is for veneer jointing and I have a few rolls of 3M tape for that - Rob

I have never had this blue tape. I've seen Derek Cohen use some sort of blue tape for marking out his dovetails but I thought it was electrical tape. What is the advantage of it?

There isn't one apart from making it easier to see where to cut for your shovetails - Rob

It's a little stretchy, Adrian, and it sticks strongly. That means you can use it to pull awkward little pieces together in a glue-up. The colour is irrelevant...it's the fact that it's made of crepe paper which counts.

I’ve just thrown a roll of El-cheapo in the bin, I wanted to just make a very small temporary measuring mark on a wallpapered wall, I didn’t press it on at all not in the slightest, came to remove it two minutes later and it started to take the surface off the paper grrrrr. Managed to get myself out of trouble thank goodness.
I did read somewhere that different tapes are rated for different lengths of time, one week two weeks etc before they stick more permanently but that might not apply to El- cheapo of course.

Mike - keep your eye on the middle of lidl. They occassionally do a pack of 3 (mixed width) 3m masking tape for ~£3. Stock up when it is available ;)

I'll alert Carruthers, and ask that he instruct the housekeeper. I have no doubt she would know what and where Lidl is. :ROFLMAO:

Yeah sorry, missed the 3m bit.
I have actually bought 3m duct tape in Lidl, but never seen masking tape in there.

Stand by your beds….
This Sunday Lidl have the 3pack 3M masking tape coming in

I went to aldi like an idiot, will get some from the right store this time, they also had a 3 pack but it's not 3m still pretty good though.
