• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Have Bosch stopped making large routers? Their website lists only the palm router. No medium or large router available.

The below was on the Bosch site and is bigger than a palm router. DIY maybe but still larger than a palm router.

The blue Bosch was/is the professinal range and not seen any pop up with a quick search.

Edit: Just found their Professional Blue range and as you say they only show palm routers.

Just to add I purchased a Bosch hand held circular Saw a while back and it was made in China. It's powerful but not as good as the originals, I would not buy based on the bosch name any more.

After a quick search, the large Bosch blue routers are still available in the U.S., but no explanation why they are not available in Europe.

Update: The GOF 1250 CE is still available in Germany, but no sign of the GOF 1600 CE that I used to own.

BTW I wouldn’t recommend the green router. The plunge mechanism is way too stiff. Maybe it can be corrected, but I’ve never seen anyone recommend a large Bosch router (green or blue) so maybe that results in or is caused by low sales and lack of interest on Bosch’s part.

I guess the quality may vary depending upon which country has made to power tool. As said my Blue Bosch hand held circular saw was made in China and is not great other Bosch tools are made throuout Asia also Europe too.

I have two, a 1600w and a 1700w. One is 34 years old, the other I suspect is older. Non existent fine adjustment, but they are bulletproof, both made in the USA. I've not seen anything anywhere like that size in Bosch in recent years.

My local Bosch dealer says he still has stock of the GOF1250CE, but even Screwfix appears to have dropped the GOF130 now. I was told that the GMF1400/GMF1600 were USA imports but didn't sell well, and that the GOF2000 was also withdrawn 4 or 5 years ago due to poor sales (although Brexit may also have influenced the decision). These are all blue professional models.

From my perspective the Bosch blue models were always a bit overpriced against the competition such as DW, Trend, Makita and Hikoki (Hitachi as was). When you consider that a GOF1250 was about the same price as a Festool OF1010 before that model was replaced, which would you have bought?

For me the Bosch Router question is why doesn't the GKF 600 have a speed control. 33,000 seems too fast for most bits.

Yes, but even small bits have max. speed that it a lot less than 33,000.

AFAIK before this fad for "palm routers" we had single speed laminate trimmers for decades, going right back to the 1950s when Stanley Electric Tools created the modern laminate trimmer. For laminate work you need a high speed because that speed will drop quite a bit under load), but for conventional profiled router cutters that 33k is far too fast IMHO. So maybe Bosch are just living in the past...

Hold on, though, Bosch UK now list two other "palm routers" (BTW a term I detest) - the GLF55-6 (550w, 1-speed, 1/4in collet, clear fixed base) and the GKF 18V-8 (18 volt cordless, 8mm collet, 10 to 30k rpm speed). I don't understand why they never imported either the Colt PR20 variable speed (Colt is the US market name for the GKF600) or the later GKF125 model, which is also variable speed. Personally, I gave up waiting for Bosch to import a variable speed trimmer about 12 years ago and switched to the Makita RT0700, and from that to the 18 volt cordless DRT50 some 6 years back. They have their faults, but they are very handy to have
