• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

As I mentioned elsewhere I have recently acquired a band saw which came with a large metal stand which is very heavy.

My primary function for my workshop build is to accommodate my leather work on one side leaving the other side free for wood butchery.
There will be some stamping involved in the leather work and the metal stand maybe very useful to support that as it is quite substantial.

Get to the point Michael,
So I saw these in Aldi today the weight limit is 50 kg per wheel so my thoughts are with four wheels that should be fine for a wooden base for my band saw.
Does anyone have any experience of these castors they are 75 mm diameter.
Help appreciated.

I've had a few castors from Aldi, but I've found better ones and ones that can meet the needs of a particular job.

I use Coldene casters and used these for my low profile carriage.

I found the company efficient to deal with online. I found the quality to be better than town stores, and obviously a greater choice.

If i saw correctly, there is one hole already on the feet of the metal stand, so these will just bolt straight through with one M10 bolt.

If you were to make a wooden stand, then there is a plate version of the above with a 4xbolt fixing at slightly dearer.

Since using Coldene, I've bought more for other cabinets, and will upgrade some of my earlier cheap castors.

I recently installed casters on my power generator (easier to move from garage to external house connection)

They are 75mm rated at 75Kg rubber wheel.
2 are fixed and 2 swivel.

They are supplied locally by Caster & Ladder who most likely import from PRC.

Cost ZAR78.00 each

The aldi and other plastic wheels have low friction with the floor so with brakes on can be moved on say a uneven or very smooth floor not ideal for long material through a saw .Rubber tyred are flatter profile with better friction so choose type for your work . Consider making a larger stand for two machines for good use of space and there extra weight. If from the above greater friction is your requirement look at arrangements that lift two casters and drop m/c on to two feet .

I’ve been using these for many years on very heavy machines

I’ve yet to find another no marking lockable caster with their weight carrying capacity cheaper & id like to as I need another 4.

That said your saw looks like my old Elu which has to be the lightest bandsaw ever made a smashing saw ideal for taking on site due to its lack of weight, I’d be wary if putting it on a moveable base as it is so light it would be easily pushed over if cutting a decent sized piece of timber.

Thanks Everyone I think Doug has hit the nail on the head as they say my band saw is the same as an Elu machine with a similar model number. And is very light! that is the great thing about for a I have been prevented from making a mistake that may well have led to an injury. Clearly that is why the company who owned it had such a heavy base made for it.
So the saw will either stay on its base or will be fixed to the work bench. I am sure I will find another use for the castors.
