• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Just heard that the super talented Dicky Betts (Allman Brothers Band) has died aged 80. Very unusual guitar player and I remember spending hours learning to play Jessica. He also wrote Ramblin' Man. Not sure anyone is left from the Southern Rock era now.

There may be a Van Zant or two still going but not many of that era now.

If you like Southern Rock I would recommend Blackberry Smoke, excellent music and fun picking out the influences

A tribute from this Gypsy Jazz ensemble. The full performance is on Facebook.

Thanks Tris. I like most things. Not come across Blackberry Smoke, but just checked a couple of tube vids, inclding 'take the highway'. They remind me of the Doobie Brothers.

Not wild about the jazz version Malc. I think it obscures the key rhythm riff. There is a YT video of Dicky doing a tuition video of Jessica with his son. Well worth seeking out.

Too late to edit into above post, this is the lesson from Dicky with his son for the musicians among us. Clean Gibson Les Paul sound very distinctive. No tab but it's pretty much all pentatonic with lots of bends and vibrato.

Check out the Tedeschi Trucks band. Derek Trucks is the nephew of Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks and played with them when he was around 13, later joining them permanently.
