• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

..when a little scavenging works?

Yesterday our combi-microwave started tripping out the RCD when using the grill. On investigation found that the two heating elements had broken and, as they heated up, dropped down and caused the RCD to trip.

Available online for £60 for the two ( a new microwave is only £200).

Then :idea: :idea: :idea:

I'd forgotten that when the last identical microwave packed up, I scavenged as many bits as I could from it and Hey Presto. One complete set of intact grill elements.. ..that's £60 back into the beer kitty.

I've also squirrelled away a load of parts that match our dishwasher - taken from the old dishwasher in the B&W we renovated all those years ago.

I'm now on the scavenge too after my Miele coffee machine packed up. Had them out to look at it Monday and it's going to cost £1700 to repair!!!

It's old, 10 years+ and to replace the water pump that's gone means replacing almost all internal parts with newer models so everything is compatible. New machine is £2500.

Was in the house when we bought it and I can't justify £2500 on coffee so when the shop is done I'm going to try and pull it apart and see if I can clean and descale the pump and in the meantime will be scouring eBay for dead ones to cannibalise...

Was yours a built-in machine?
You can get very good separates for £350 machine plus £300 for a good variable grinder.

Can you chuck some vinegar in it Mark and put it through a cycle? I do our kettle like that about once a year. Use white vinegar BTW not the brown stuff.
 
Mark, the fact that they are offering to repair it suggests that parts are available. Or is the parts that are costing the earth ?
 
It's the parts Roger. Because mine is over 10 years old they don't have the parts. They need to use parts from later models but Sod's law dictates that they are not compatible so not only do they need to replace the pump, they need to replace about 6 other parts to make the pump fit, including the electronic controller which is fine.
