Electric staple gun - any recommendations?

I need a cheap electric staple gun. It is to fit a stair runner, with a wind in the stair. My manual stapler is not man enough to get through the carpet and into the wood deeply enough unfortunately. This is a one off use so I don't want to spend a lot. The pro vids fire a lot of staples when doing this job properly. Any recommendations? (PS I don't have a compressor so air gun is not an option).

(As an aside we were quoted locally £2,200 plus VAT to supply and fit the stair runner with rods and underlay. Insane.)
 
I have similar experiences to Steve.
You could buy screwfix’s offering, carefully save the box and receipt and risk that seeing the job out.
I think they still have a no quibble three year warranty.
 
Thanks guys. There are several on the bay Tacwise as for spares or repair, which speaks volumes! Screwfix do Titan and they get pretty bad reviews.
 
I'll warn you off the corded Titan one, although mine is a few years old now it is awful! Doesn't have enough power to drive the staples into even softwood.
 
Thanks Matt. Duly noted. Thanks Malc - the Rutlands one at £70 is a clone of the Excel tool which is about £42. Just different colour plastic. I've been warned off the Rutlands one.

Now I've looked into it a bit more, it seems a narrow crown staple type is best for carpet work as the staples don't show.

So that would be £200 for the job and 2K for a decent stapler... :)

If you have the workshop space, perhaps you should think about getting a small compressor. Not too small, mind, you need a decent tank some are as small as 50 or even 25 litres. But you can do a lot with a 150l machine and air tools are good and cheap. Just check how much air any particular tool needs. Spray guns, ROSs, sand blasters and air chisels use a lot of air. But a small machine will easily handle nails, staples, inflate your inflatables and clean out your tablesaw.
 
I almost never go in the workshop! It's a sad state of affairs. Practically all the work I do is in the house and tools etc have migrated there as the renovation and building work is endless. Anything I have to lug back and forth to the shop, which is not that near the house, is just a pain in winter. I do agree a compressor would be useful. But this is just a one off job that will only take a day I hope.
 
Bought a used Stanley gun from bay for £14. Slightly annoying as just after my silly offer was accepted, I found a narrow gauge gun from Excel which is the same as the one Malc suggested from Rutlands but half the price. Might buy that as well as narrow gauge will hide the staples better. My expectations are fairly low.

Edit. Bought both. Will return or sell one. Hence now too late for any more ideas. Thanks all.

steer clear of the Parkside electric nailer and stapler - I got the corded one to learn how to use a nail/staple gun and it’s utterly useless. Can only get 3/4 of a 1” brad into soft dry pallet wood. Classic case of buy cheap buy twice. I’m now looking for a better green nail/staple gun as the wife knows that mine is green.

£39. I paid £38 but there you go.

Narrow guage heavy duty staples. It will drive up to a 32mm long staple or brad, with a good thump. This gun is half the price of the rebadged one Rutlands sell, and likewise another branded version Neu Master which is £60 on amazon.

I have done the carpeting job now (separate thread) and this gun was impressive. Very powerful. It doesn't have bump fire like the expensive professional ones, which is fine for me as a DIYer, and the cable is a bit short but it is a total bargain at under £40. You definitely want a narrow head 18g staple for carpets. The gun takes a range of staple lengths, and they are about £5 a box readily available on river shop.

Recommended.
