• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Is anyone planning on going to Cressing Temple Barns in a couple of weeks time?

I'm not, but it's only about 10 miles from me, so if anyone wants a cup of tea and a tour of the project here, they're more than welcome.

I would love to but haven't the time this year, maybe next..

I met a few people down there a few years ago, Tom, Simon (Oryx), Nick Gibbs, Doug might have even been there. Great show and amazing place so well worth a visit if you haven't been before.

You don't have to buy more tools, you can get wood and finishes there as well. [emoji38]

The Indian food is also very good.

I like to spend time looking at the stuff people are making, some interesting techniques are often demonstrated and you can ask questions.
 
The carving competition is also mighty fine - totally loved the baby owl turning the page of a book last time, all carved from a single block. Wastage factor must have been huge!

Hoping to get there on the Saturday, I've heard from a few folks that it will be the last show shame if it is but judging by the line up they will be going out with a bang.

It 's a great show & for me a very social affair so far I've heard from a dozen or so folks who are going & I usually end up meeting quite a few more so a excellent event to catch up with friends particularly those from the south east.
 
I went to first one (I think) at West Dean.
Garrett Hack, Brian Boggs and I think Bill Carter were there. Auriou had gone bust and mr Auriou was selling his rasps with very big discounts.
I think the next one was held at an arboretum whose name I cannot remember.

They weren't called "European" in those days though.

Correct. For some reason best known to themselves CHT won't be doing another one. I went to one a few years ago and for me as well it's an absolute bugger to get to...a haul up the M3 and then two hours + stuck on the M25 isn't my idea of a fun time.
The venue is magnificent but I found it strangely lacking somehow; difficult to put a digit on it but it didn't seem 'complete' and I came away a bit disappointed. There's no decent stocks of timber to pore over (unlike Yandles) and to add insult to injury you need to pay to get in (also unlike Yandles) - Rob
 
Just sorted out my tickets for the show and they are number 10 & 11, so I was in the queue quite early. [emoji41]
 
Good to see you yesterday Dave, really liked your wood puzzle any chance of a photo or link as I'd like to have a go at making a couple. :eusa-think:

Also met Stu of this parish good to catch up with him after quite a few years & to hear the door making business is doing well :eusa-dance:

Really enjoyed the show, great to see MAC Timbers there not only as they had a good selection of wood but that they are reemerging from their past troubles.
All the way usual suspects were there plus some new comers which made for a day of chatting & catching up that sped by.
Philly was there looking very well though god knows how judging by his snack pot lunch which one show goer described as looking like something the cat bought up :?
All in all a great day which if it is to be the last ever will be sad but was one of the best I've been to.
 
Popped along today. Good to see some old faces, including the great DaveL :D Shame it was the last one, always a great show. I'm sure CHT will be back in a few years with something else. 8-)
 
Bloody hell, Tom, you came this far and didn't come the extra ten minutes to see me! I could have used a hand, too....... ;)
 
Yes it was a good show, nice to meet up with you chaps. I don't not buy any tools [emoji56] , just a book and some finishes from Chestnut.

Sorry Mike, it was in the back of my mind, but by 3pm my back and knees were knackered!

Anita seems to have caught the tool bug though, so I think a visit to CHT's shop will be in our future. We'll pop in then ;)
 
Mine bought me a LN plane for an anniversary one year and last weekend took me to see a local furniture restorer who was exhibiting his wares and skills in a local chateau. If only she could cook. :)
 
There were some chaps doing some green oak framing and I of course thought of Mike, here one of them is cutting a curve with a nice green toy.

I think they came from near Colchester, so quite local.
