• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

In the downstairs shower, trying to fix the leak.
I am exasperated.

I have an electronics repair job to do for my wife's church, some LED 'stage' lights. There are seven altogether, all faulty in slightly different ways, so I decided to batch them and do them all at once (all but one have power supply issues - the other has additional faults).

The parts are a first purchase from AliExpress, some of whose vendors decided to use Evri here to deliver. And they have, all except for one component (several pieces thereof), which they still haven't.

Look at the dates/times below and weep, especially as the packet, easily small enough for the letterbox. It is apparently NOT scheduled for delivery today, was supposedly out on the van twice last week, and no explanations have been given (nor human contact made).

I've raised an 'issue' although the actual issue is entirely theirs. I've had no meaningful reply to that either.

Yes, we're still tripping over the non-functional lights in the kitchen.

It's staggering in the C21st, with probably half a dozen different ways of contacting me. It's also staggering how Evri turns a profit -- assuming the they have any interest in sorting this out -- it and similar c**ck-ups must waste huge %ge of revenue. "Companies not to buy shares in include..."

PS: I've also had literally over two dozen basically spam emails from AliExpress after just one order of seven different types of small components. Then there was all the Evri stuff. I'm thinking that, no matter how cheap, life is too short.

I think you will find Evri/ Hermes has been making a loss for some time.

Our local driver is very good but I know that the other side of town there’s constant complaints about the one that does that area.

Sorry to hear all that Eric. At least they have actually been sent, which is something. A couple of times I've had AE sellers take my money and run and AE back them up. The only redress is via the bank (but you have to use a credit card rather than a debit card). And I've found that the quality varies enormously, from excellent to not actually useable. There is a vid on YouTube about my experiences:

I've had lots of lighting issues since being here. The workshop had some fluorescent tubes, the big barn had one 2ft tube and the little barn had no lighting at all. I bought some LED batten lights and they are great - when they work. I had 2 failures within just a few months and now another 3 are flickering. They have a 5 year guarantee, so this should not be happening.

I bought them from a UK reseller on Amazon, and I have to say that his customer service is excellent. But it is a pain, especially as one of them needs scaffolding to access it.

I hope you get your kit soon.

Buy cheap and buy twice comes to mind. I am sure the parts could be obtained nearer than asia but at an increased cost and don't forget that once upon a time when Evri was Hermes I think you got better service.

The repairs aren't cost-effective at UK prices (somewhere around 10x to 15x more per component from the usual British electronic suppliers). Also, I wasted a lot of time looking for matching semiconductors on British suppliers' web sites (industry wants the latest stuff instead), whereas the originals came up almost instantaneously on AliExpress.

Frustratingly the power supplies are a standard size, with a very non-standard mounting arrangement: replacements PSUs are pretty cheap, but would require a lot of metalwork. It's easier to replace caps and chips than fit new standoffs and maintain electrical safety.

I used to have issues with Hermes too. One experience doesn't mean Evri are terrible, but it's unacceptable for them to 'lose interest' in delivering something.

And a quick PS:

Yesterday I got a spam iMessage to my 'phone, purporting to be from Evri, saying the "parcel"* was 'back at the warehouse'. It came from an unknown hotmail email address, and suggested I click on a link outside Evri's domain. Obviously a try-on by a 'bad actor', but...

... I've never had one before. I very much hope it doesn't mean Evri's security is compromised, since I raised an incident report about the above issue 24h previously. I hope it's just coincidence.

*It'll be a padded bag, and tiny at that.

Yup, I've a tracking list very similar to yours.
Item acknowledged, then depot, out for delivery, twice, back in depot, out for delivery, etc, then lost, then sent back to sender!
At least I've had a full refund, but can't do the job, because the tools not with me.

I've always get a sinking feeling whenever I get an email "Dispatched with EVRI" or previously, Hermes.

I had to return an Amazon order the other day, supposedly to be collected by EVRI the next day. With Amazon you only get a refund if they collect the item, so one day passes and it hadn't been collected, another day passes and still hadn't been collected, renewed the return just in case something went wrong, another three days pass and I get in touch with Amazon support and they say they will sort it out, another two days pass and EVRI turn up with something else that had been ordered and almost went away without collecting the parcel!

I have no idea how such a shambolic company that undercuts everyone still keeps going.

Well, it finally arrived yesterday evening. According to the documentation, posted through the letterbox around 1830h.

Looking at my email, there was a flurry of messages from Evri, after 5pm. The packet looks as though it was trodden on, although the components don't seem to be physically damaged (and they're not especially static-sensitive). I was also told that it was 'signed-for', presumably by the gnome who lives in our wheely bin near the front door.

That, unfortunately, means I now have to plug the soldering iron in...

Relieved, but unimpressed.

And the mad thing is, EtV, you live just off a main thoroughfare in a major city. There, surely close to an Evri depot, one might expect unsensational delivery? Perhaps even prompt delivery? Certainly not this cascade of carelessness and laxity. What chance usuns what reside in the great rural expanse of getting a decent delivery? Just sayin'.
