No WIP photos as this one was a rush job - my parents had a Golden Wedding anniversary last weekend and were going to be away for it. Plans changed the week before and they wanted family to come to their house for a bit of a do instead, so quick prezzie needed! Quick root around in the workshop and I came up with some walnut, a bit of veneer (mahogany I think, but could be wrong) and made the following:

It is not quite as deep as I would have wanted, only 70mm as that was the size of the timber I had, so no removable tray, just fixed dividers. Maple splines and a black banding around the veneer. I also didn't have time to thickness the walnut and let it settle, so the sides are a full 20mm thick, but I offset this visually by a rebate for the veneer so it only shows with the lid open. Hinges are a couple of butterfly hinges I had in the cupboard, but I couldn't find a handle that suited so haven't added one yet, but the lid easily lifts as is so may never get round to it!
Finish is a couple of coats of osmo poly-x satin then a clear wax on top. I think the veneer would have been better under a gloss finish, but box seems to have been well received, which is the main thing, even if I was concerned the osmo would still be wet in the internal dividers since I finished it the morning of the do!
