We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Following on from the various discussion on this topic, I ventured up into the small loft space we have to lay mouse terminators the other day and noticed these pipes. They are vents for various fans from bathrooms etc plus the oven extractor.

I was wondering whether these pipes etc would suffice to allow me to retrofit such a device into my place...?

They basically go directly from the expelairs up to roof vents.

The system I had needed one out and one in externals and two in and two out internals (so two wet rooms out and two rooms being fed dry air).

The external out needs to be far enough away from the in.

I used a roof slate vent for the out and had the in placed on a soffit (it was a bungalow) it had a insect filter which would need cleaning once in a while so worth considering the placement.

The internal vents were adjustable so you can balance the system.

I would say you could make use of the existing ducting but would insulate the cold side to minimise condensation.

The ducting won't be any use to you, but the terminals might. In fact, they could be very handy. You will need 2 external terminals, as has been said, one for fresh air coming in, and one for stale air going out......so those two sticking through the roof would seem to be ideal.

Whilst talking of ducting, avoid using the crinkly "slinky"-type ducting. It should be smooth and rigid, for efficiency, and to avoid noise and the build up of dust. The last couple or 3 feet to the magic box can/ should be in an insulated flexible duct, to help deaden sound and to make the final connections easier, but other than than the main body of ducting should be solid smooth plastic tubing.
 
Thanks Mike. When I asked about the ducting what I meant but didn't articulate at all, was that I appear to have the routes /holes free and available should the actual pipe need replacing.

Sounds good, something I shall look into methinks.
