• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hello Everyone,

I've been watching this forum for a while now and decided to get stuck in.

Joiner by trade, over in Germany now. Renovating an old farmhouse and buildings, getting workshop restocked, back up and running, then who know what. Need to get back into the bench side of things and try and get in touch with what I loved about this game, take it easy and make nice things.

Welcome MJ. As you have been browsing for some time you will now that we love pictures around here. So please get your post count up with a few posts, 3 I think, and then show us what you are up to.
There are some loverly tool stores in Germany and some quality manufacturers too so just a little envious.

What part of Germany? Haven't been there since I was a teenager in the '60s, but have happy memories.

Im about an hour south of Hannover at the edge of the Teutoberger Wald. Its pretty quiet compared to the UK. There are more nice tool stores on line than I have managed to find. I always used to get bits and bats from fine tools, but nothing really like that in the shops round here. Plus its all more expensive than the UK. Germany can be a little odd somtimes :?

Hi Mike,
Been following your progress, yours looks awesome. Unfortunately the previous owners of our place got had by a building company. All the oak frame was taken out and replaced with terrible brickwork, the interior of the house had been hacked about over 200 years and when it was all exposed I had to rip it out and rebuild it in studwork and steel to get the windloading for the gable. Its back together now but still need to finish the second fix, but need the workshop running to make everything - hence more projects. Its a tragedy really because I'm sure the oak could have been saved.

Does Germany have a Listing-type system for protecting old buildings?

I stayed in Hagen, Westphalia, in the 60s; furthest north I got was Münster. Even so, failed A Level German in 1968!! (German literature is proper hard work to swallow!!)
 
There is a listed building status here and it is as much of a nightmare as the UK. Round here Oak framing was the norm so things you would think should be listed aren't seen as being special. I think they have managed to get away with this one by ripping the front out and bricking it up int he 1960's before anyone cared. I would have loved to have got it with the rest of the framework in then i would have ripped the brickwork out and reinstate the framing. Anyway there is another house to attack later on.

Hagen is about an hour and a half away, thinking about a spray booth round that way
