• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I need the name of a tool.

Please bear with me on this because I don't know what the tool in question is called and so will have to describe it in the hope that somebody can put a name to it.

Imagine a ruler/straight edge thingy, say about 2" - 3" wide which would typically be laid across the grain of a piece of wood. It is fitted on the under side with a light clamping mechanism consisting of a couple of blocks (usually of plastic) which grip the wood by means of a lever mechanism. Thus when used on a properly square bit of wood, it can act as a kind of bang on 90° fence.

Any ideas what these things are called and where I could get one? I can't imagine needing one longer than, say, 18". In fact, a foot would probably do.

Thanks in advance,

Andy.

Guaranteed the very next job you want it for, it'll be just too short. DAMHIKT.

And as we're in Hand Toolery and you all like pictures, have one of such a clamp adapted for use with a combination plane:

I bought a couple years ago Andy but they were cheap versions and still work very well, I converted one of them into an adjustable feather edge clamp for the table saw, the other just gets uses as and when, both are around a metre long and the clamp lever arrangement is slightly different to the Axi version.
I've seen them in the past in Aldi / Lidl so worth looking out, you can fairly easily cut them down in size but as said it's sods law you'll regret it.

Just found one that looks more like mine, a guide clamp so worth googling around a bit.
