• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. So i am trying to secure a centre casement to a removable mullion that makes up a fire escape, i am trying to keep the fixing either out of sight or very minimal. I have come up with somthing that i will mention but other folk may have others worth mentioning.

1st idea useing sash fastner but its just to big, i know you can get narrower fastners to work would need to be 50% all round smaller

Second idea to add a small plant rebated & fixed into the mullion then passing a 6mm threaded brass pin through it into the casement screwing the casement too, shown a wood block, pin & threaded insert.

20250607_182246.jpg Above pic shows a pin that i can insert through the mullion and have somthing like a push button latch that has a 20mm bolt throw there or there abouts into the casement, this is my preferred method however i cannot find anything on the web so asking you guys have you any ideas or other options worth considering.
Just for info i would be happy simply fixing the casement to the mullion and open them up as one but the swing angle will not allow the mullion out of the frames lower rail.

Very little experience with outward opening windows, but a little with inwards opening. What would normally be done is to use a floating mullion attached to the slave sash.
The so called floating mullion is no more that a simple plant on to the slave sash, I’ll post an image that shows it on an inwards opener. In your case with an outward opener the plant on could be on the inside.

All the ones I've had experience of have been attached to one of the casements. There is simple a pair of seals top and bottom, and the "fly-away mullion" (or floating mullion) therefore doesn't need retaining in any way.
 
Perhaps my mistake was to rebate the mullion into the bottom and top rail only 5mm but enough for it to snag when it swings open, its a issue that i haave created without the forsight to notice this problem
