It's curtains for me - what on earth do I do with this?

Today someone (not me but there are only two of us in this house...) decided to pull back the curtain and was just a tad heavy-handed about it.


As you can see, I am not the first person to be here.

The structure is:
Granite wall
Dob-and-dab plasterboard with 25 polystyene behind it.
Thats it.

The curtain is quite heavy, I'll grant.

What can I do to make this all sound again?

Cut out a square - screw a suitable piece of wood to the granite just below the plasterboard surface - plaster/fill over the top - screw into the wood.

Or come up with a feature driven designed board that fixes to that timber?

I'm almost with Ray. See if you can get someone to make to a pair of brackets which screw into the bit of exposed timber.

Move the curtain pole up onto the beam.

Make sure they do not start swinging from the lights now they know they cannot hang from the curtains is the first step. Next I would fill the hole and make good, then look for a curtain pole hanger which can be attached to that wooden beam above as that looks solid.

Get with it. We have no curtains. At all. Not overlooked at all by anyone, but in a few places we have blinds and that's it. I aim for very few dust collecting fabrics due to allergies and general dislike of curtains, especially net curtains.

Fill the hole with dot and dab glue. The stuff is excellent, doesn’t stink, you can sand it paint it fix to it……..

By "dot and dab glue" do you mean the powdered MAP stuff that you mix with water (which I have) or do you mean a cartridge product that you inject (I have the nozzle but only PU foam, which I'm pretty sure would not be sufficiently weight-bearing)?

You could put 25mm wardrobe fittings hung vertically from the beam
Ive successfully fixed big holes in drywall simply by stuffing them with paper or platic then ordinary filler
