• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Its that time again, London to Southend

I think most of you will remember this thread.
Well I have gone and done it again, I have signed up for the ride this year.

And this is my new bike, its just a bit quicker than the hybrid and it has full approval from the now large new dog that got me up after last years ride.

Skye who likes getting his picture taken.

I took the bike out on a trail 60 mile ride, in support of St Nicholas Hospice, and was very please to average 14.2mph so this year I should get to Southend a bit quicker.

I have set up a just giving page, I am supporting St Nicholas Hospice again and if any of you good folk have a spare pound or two it would be most welcome.

I will be posting pictures of the ride just like last year, so you will know that it did happen. 8-)

Nice bike Dave, I still prefer the mountain bike.

Years ago when I rode the Argus on my trusty mountain bike, a cycling friend decided the MB was too slow and bought a road bike. He started one group behind me (4 minutes) and still finished after me! He was slightly highly pi$$ed off (18 yrs younger than me!)

When I bought the MB I had the front crankset changed to 52-42-32 which gave very good road performance.
Off-road riding I tended to struggle on the steep dirt hills

ther's me stuck in woodwork mode all the time .. looking at the beard and wondering about dust masks ! lol
Your quite right, the beard does stop a dust mask sealing, that's why I use a shop vac and a cyclone with a 3hp motor to trap as much as possible at the source, I then have two air cleaners that help to get what still gets out.

Disappointed that you have still not added cleats to the clogs :)

All the best for the ride.
I now have a pair of Shimano road shoes, I know their not clogs but they have a rigid sole and they do have cleats.
In fact I rode down to Halfords in Colchester today to get the pedals replaced, one of the tension screws had fallen out of a pedal. I spent ages yesterday at the start of our ride trying to get clipped in, when I stopped and looked at the pedal I found it was not me being stupid, it really was a fault with the kit. Full marks the Halfords, they replaced the pedals, and the front reflector which had also jumped of during a ride, while I waited, with no problem.

The ride went well, here I am just outside Stratford Station.

The first hurdle was crossing over the railway using a foot bridge, quite slow in cleated cycling shoes.
Here are the details of the ride, from Strava this year.

There should be a picture of me during the ride, but the guys are still sorting out them out, they had an automated set-up taking a picture of everything that passed the camera, I had a number of 1201 and I was passed by a chap with 2475 on his back, I bet there were a few cars snapped as well.

Just like last year I was out on my bike on Monday morning, managed 31 miles to stop the legs binding up.
