• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

List of things to do!

But it's missing the arrows, and where are the numbers?...
not to mention in-between's, strikethrough's, scribbles, boxes, ticks and measurements?

If I were to guess... looks to have all the hallmark's of a pre-list to me Duke?
I mean those corners of you're jotter, aren't even rolled up yet!

New revised list this morning while having coffee. Nothing done yet. My wife's list for me I always seem to forget where I put it.

26 items on the list.

Going to make some coffee, eat a mince pie and fix the one hinge on the linen cupboard door (emergency work)

I write down reminders every day otherwise I forget. My wife points out that I could put them on my 'phone as she does but then that doesn't seem to work very well for her. :ROFLMAO:
I also have a rolling list as things are added and deleted, there always seems to be more left to do than completed. A manana approach has a lot to do with that.

Out of respect for Phil and Lons, I counted mine. 50.

As the BBC continuity announcer used to say: "Here is a short excerpt...."

Like Phil, for today at least, I am going to conteplate my navel and various other nefarious parts of my anatomy.

I'd point out that, some of the items on the list are composite. Par example, the AGS repair involves taking off the cast iron top, re-arranging the shims on the arbor housing, permanently fixing the dust collection bodge from 10 years ago, sealing up the top to augment said collection, mending the fence PROPERLY (bodge No 37/B2), drilling for attachment points on a lovely wee mechanical feeder I bought for it two years ago, making and fitting a PROPER dust collection point at the bottom of the casing, to include a blast gate I've had for..... You get the picture.

The last rear porch, or rather pergola, was demolished by Arwen....

Nice long term list mine I need to do in the next 6 days:cry:
I do have an expanded list but don't like to look at it !

That is a stuffed toy spider. Years ago my wife hung it up there for the benefit of the youngest grandkids. They are in their mid to late teens now and it must remain hung up Ian.
Oh the stairs rails will be done properly. Built then quickly with materials on hand when one of our dogs went blind and would walk off the edge.

I've abandoned lists, too hard to re-order. I now have a database for things to do with each item tagged with priority, weather needed, time of year, etc etc so I can sort to suit the day and my level of motivation and see what comes to the top.
Then I go do something that's not on the list just cos I feel like it.

I have even tried making lists in the note section of my cell phone, it never worked for me.

Unexpected items – sorted themselves out!

  • One late afternoon the gas flame on the hob was very small despite being fully open. No problem, go to the gas cage and swop the bottle. (it was raining). The last change was about November 2023 and a bottle lasts up to 18 months. 19Kg. Replace empty with new bottle. (they deliver and fit the piping)
  • Easy 2 minute job, close off bottle 1 valve, turn change over valve from bottle 1 to 2, remove bottle 2 plastic cover on valve and open.
  • Back to hob.
  • Only slight improvement, problem could be regulator, I will not look at it, will have to call out gas installer in January.
  • Couple of days later, all working fine. Apparently this can happen if the bottle has been over filled, will keep beady eye on it.

  • The garage door made a thump noise when opening. Bit of observation revealed that it was not stopping at the open sensor, just before the motor, and thumping into the motor box.
  • Well again there is nothing that can be done till first week January when business’ open.
  • In the meantime press the button to open and as the unit reaches the sensor press again to stop.
  • Repeated a couple of days (I need the door open when working in the workshop).
  • Yesterday just pushed button forgetting to watch the door …………………It stopped at the sensor! :) Saved plenty of bucks not having to pay for callout.
  • The last call out (plenty bucks) was to replace a broken torsion bar spring. Broken spring = no open the door :(

The above just did not even get near the TDL!

Same thing happened to the shop overhead door past summer. Go to close it, comes down half way then opens. Decide to hold the button down till fully closed, worked. Next time I use the door it works perfectly fine.
We have a 1000 litre propane tank for our home needs. Five winters ago, into the -40 C weather I wake up and find no available hot water, furnace not working. Check the tank, it's fine. Called the HVAC guy, probably a frozen regulator he says. Boil some water and pour it over the two, did this and everything worked fine. Moisture had frozen inside the regulators.

No horses Ian , grandkids when little wanted some. Talked to the son, fine as long as you cover all the cost, gave him a rough yearly cost and he said no. Now kids are older and have two and son has to push back his projected retirement by 5 to 8 years. I warned him!

To cut the 45 degree supports I cleaned up an old form board, marked a curve and cut it on the band saw. Used this to mark out the second one.1000005684.jpg

Nice, showed it to Madame and she likes it, (high praise!) it was suggested that we need something just like that over our side entrance.
Presumably you have mounted it so that the asphalt shingles can go up behind the siding?
Ian

It will have a metal roof (remember the clean hay store pic with the metal leaning against the wall) and I will tuck up flashing behind the siding tomorrow. It is very cold today so this took longer than usual.
In the warmer weather, end of May or so I will stain the wood work. This is what I call rough carpentry, I'll also do some sanding on the sharp edges.

Pray tell the time line for you list.

Have you ever used Seafoam works well when added to old fuel.
