Anyone who's ever needed to do any plumbing will have come across Monument Tools as being a proper professional brand. What they might not realise is that they are a family firm, over five generations of the Collier family, going back 143 years.
They started in Brixton as retail tool sellers but branched out into manufacturing in WWI.
They moved to bigger premises in Balham and then to Hackridge in Sutton where they continue to manufacture almost everything they sell and export worldwide.
Just lately, they've been putting more videos on their YouTube channel to show their history. Some are a simple show and tell format, explaining their products. (Although plumbing tools are their main area, they used to make a rather nice bronze sill plane I'd not seen before.)
Other videos show their modern CNC manufacturing and discuss the need to innovate and keep up with changing demands.
There's some overlap but I suggest you start here for an overview of their history and then explore further videos on their channel.
And if you have one of their best selling pipe cutters, you might find out why you should look closely at its adjusting knob.
