I am in need of a trammel for scribing door arches for the job site tomorrow. At 8:30pm today I remembered, so out to the shop to scrounge for parts.

Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! I used the sliding stops from the mitre saw rail and raided the scrap wood bins for a piece of Cherry. Used a plane to smooth surfaces and a chamfer to the edges.

Drilled for a pivot point which is a 3" smooth shank nail and for a pencil. I found a threaded knob from a not in use mitre gauge. Drilled a slightly smaller diameter and used the metal thread of the knob to cut a thread. Put a little paste wax on the thread and it turns with ease.

Trammel completed with the capacity to scribe a 36 1/2" radius.

LOL, thats what mine is. My circle cutting jig for my jigsaw is the same stick with 3 scraps of wood glued on that form a "cage" that holds the jigsaw base in place and has a slot for the blade.I must admit you have done a far better job than I would have done.
