• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I hadn't and was surprised that when they paid using PayPal, PayPal told me that they would hang onto the funds for up to 21 days....'in case of problems'. OK - they give one or two suggestions for getting the money released earlier - such as giving a tracking number etc ....anyone had any experience as to how well that works and how quickly funds are released?

In my case it was a collection and so no tracking number. I called PayPal to see what could be done and their suggestion was for the buyer to log into their PayPal account when they arrived and notify PayPal that they had taken possession of the item. 'And if their mobile is not a smartphone?' says I. 'Or that they can't get a signal?' says I. "Get them to use your computer" says the man from PayPal. "Mmmm...yes, right...let a complete stranger complete with muddy boots into my home, traipse upstairs into my study" ...I don't think so.

Managed to get the bloke to release my funds. Guess he wanted shot of El Stroppo on the phone :lol:
 
We have Bid-or-Buy here.

When i bought the two Hegners, the guy would not release them till B-o-B confirmed the payment into their account (they then pay the seller) which meant a third 120Km round trip.

Roger, there should be an option with PayPal just before you confirm the sale. It's somewhere on that page and you can either check the box for immediate release of funds or pay after delivery. I use Mrs P's eBay account for buying stuff and I experienced the same issue. She has since put me right on this and all is now okay.

I've just asked her and she firstly took me to the popular little notice we have hanging in our house - just a wee reminder she gets great pleasure from... :shock: :lol: :x :x

Right then, Mrs P (or the fuhrer in some cases) says once you click 'Pay Now', you'll be taken to the 'pay now' page and above the 'total amount due' will be 3 options which also show your bank details and how you want to pay - whether it's straight away or after delivery. It's in a small font so it's easily missed apparently and you need to check/click one of these options every time you buy on ebay.

Hope this makes sense ole chap, but if it doesn't, I'll re-word the above notice :text-bravo:

Ah yes! :oops: What a complete and utter chocolate donut I am. Mrs P has just called me a silly sausage.

The clue is in the title I guess. :oops: Sorry!

Mrs P says there's a new selling policy to protect people, although she isn't 100% as she hasn't sold anything for a while. I better get to Specsavers and stick to woodworking. :|

The cynic in me says that PayPal have done it to avoid themselves hassle. It has diddly squat to do with protecting buyers.

May have something to do with the de merger of PayPal and eBay I guess, not such an integrated happy family any more maybe? Only a guess.

Just a heads up but if someone is collecting an item you should never accept payment via paypal for it. Paypal should only be accepted if you are posting the item with a tracking number.

If a dishonest buyer pays with paypal and collects, then contacts paypal saying they have not received the item, paypal will freeze the funds until you can provide them with proof of postage, which you can't. And paypal can claw the money back even after you have received it.
 
Lol...I take your point but PayPal would find it impossible in my case. I have a dedicated bank account for PayPal that contains about £1. As soon as funds arrive in my PayPal account they are transferred to that bank account and within seconds out of that account to elsewhere.
