• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

For a while I have thought I had mice in the workshop, but no evidence just a smell. On Monday I put together a cabinet with 8 No 3” wide 9” deep compartments at the bottom. Then placed it on the workshop floor as I needed the bench space. Today I ventured into the workshop only to find that someone had made a home in the third compartment from the right. It was filling up with sycamore seeds. They do not hang around to take advantage of a new home.

Rig up a little lid above the relevant compartment, on a trip, then transport the occupant to a woodland a mile or two away. Oh, and unless you provide photographic evidence to the contrary, the existence of said cabinet remains debatable... :)

I also have mice in the shop but our shop Ermine keeps them under control.

The problem is the woodland is only 100 yards away in the first place. I try to cohabit with them and only get the traps when necessary. As for photos I get the point and will post some in due course. I am a long way from step by step photos. It is more whenever I remember.

Luckily we don't have them in the workshop. But my wife used to have mice in her Mazda 323. They entered the car through the wheel arches. That was the only car we had that happen to. You'd think with all the buzzards around they wouldn't stand a chance (we have a lot of those), but apparently there's enough of the little critters that manage to escape being eaten by them.

They also live in my wife's car, kept telling her not to leave food wrappers in it. Now they collect the seeds etc., and bring them into the car.
When you turn the vents on seed chaff shoots out.

In our case they didn't bring in food stuff. They did damage the car somewhat, but not too much. The really bad thing was what they left behind. It isn't that hard to clean up (a good UV light helps), but the smell is persistent and pungent. 😨We are glad the mice don't seem to be able to get into the new Volvo (or just don't want to - yet).

Friends of ours had mice chew enough wiring in their car that would cost thousands to repair, possibly more. They put in an insurance claim and payout was the value of their car.

Yes a friend of mine’s car had a whole load of wiring and pipes chewed through by Squirrels, seems somebody decided that it was a good idea to make them from Soybeans, talk of a class action on the way. It cost her insurance co $7000
