• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

our interweb is busted

So we have a new router being posted out today.
They insisted in sending an "engineer" out , even though I told them it wasn't a problem with our wiring etc.
so he came out .. said we need a new router !
Surely it would have been a fraction of the price, to send us a router to try , rather than book an engineer !

Anyway , we've been using my phone as a mobile hot spot , to get the basics of work done .. invoicing , emails etc. .. and after a few top ups ee said we can have unlimited data for 5 days for £5 ! :-)

it's surprisingly fast too .. 45Mb download speeds on 4G .. pleanty fast enough.

Only trouble is, we need to share it, between the house and my workshop. I know there are ways .. but we don't have repeaters etc. .. maybe something to consider getting one .. sort of like being prepared for a power cut .
I also guess we could set up a PC which will shape the connection.. ?

we're on plus net BTW .. We have liked the service a lot in the past ... they seem to have got busier , and the service level has dropped a tad.

Still better than our experience with BT though ! .. by a long shot.

Hopefully the new router will be here tomorrow , and we will get back to normal.

I'm trying to get our picostation up and running so I can have interweb in the barn and garden, I'll let you know how successful it is.

YOu can get MiFi devices, I have one from Vodafone. Essentially stick your SIM in it and it broadcasts a WiFi SSID out. Effectively a WiFi 4G router. Not so easy to share around the house I suppose but there might be a way if you Google...

Cheers
Mark

Are their routers pre-configured? In other words, you can't use your own ?

We're with Zen and have no such constraints and so I have a couple of routers all configured and ready to be swapped in should the need arise.

the ones they send are set up ready to go.

I'm pretty sure you can use your own too ... if you have one !
We have loads of old broadband routers, but only the (broken) one for fibre.
