• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Anyone been caught?
A number of local hostelries have had this system installed in my locality. I am convinced that it’s a stupid idea since it’s already reducing the numbers of customers to a great extent.
The idea is that customers are required to enter their vehicle reg number in a terminal inside the premises, failure to do this results in a substantial fine levied by the company..
I think the system is approved by top management in the pub company on the grounds that it’s free of charge to them and prevents parking by non customers.
It’s been in limited use for some years now and it seems that it’s now spreading like a rash!
The drawback seems to be that regular customers forget to “sign in “ and after receiving a fine, decline to spend any money at the pub concerned.
I have adopted what seems to be the popular solution, I walk to my local ( which is on the system) and decline to motor to any that have it.
Last Friday evening I was one of just four customers in the pub between 9 30 and 1100. How long will it be before the top bosses work it out?

This is happening more and more with not just hostelries but supermarkets as well. You can see why some need to do this because there carparks fill up with people just wanting free parking and not using the business whilst actual customers cannot park. A supermarket in a lakedistrict honeypot now uses one of these car parking companies to manage the car park, it used to be chaotic and crammed but now you can park and do some shopping without the hassle. You get one hour free for shopping which is extended if you provide the vehicle registration to two hours free and then you get charged. It has stopped the people who wanted to park all day for nothing so is a good idea.

The drawback seems to be that regular customers forget to “sign in “
But that is something that will change as you get used to doing it, it is no one elses fault.

Roy? You thinking of a certain supermarché in Keswick? Bloody good job if so. I've had a couple of issues over there; any move to sort is welcome.

The more I look at this the more convinced I am that parking control reduces the number of customers on licensed premises.
This must be a first world problem. Unless I'm missing something relevant to the UK parking problem, anyone intelligent enough to drive to a pub should be intelligent enough to do one additional simple task.

In Germany, signs similar these are nearly everywhere. The parking times vary, and this sign shows free parking is allowed for one hour from 0900 to 1900 Monday through Friday. Unless otherwise noted, parking is not monitored outside these times. Vehicles must display the parking disk showing the arrival time. Vehicles that don't display the parking disk, or indicate expired times when the parking control arrive will receive a fine. The parking violation fines vary, but are usually between €40 and €60.

For those who can be bothered, or remember, to display the manual parking disk, this approved electronic device will display the arrival time when the vehicle stops. In the photo below, the time shows the vehicle parked at 7:30. If the authorized time is one hour and the parking control come through at 8:30, the owner of this vehicle will receive a fine in the mail.

Our town centre M&S Foodstore has managed parking due to its proximity to the centre, the bus station and the council offices. It is now ANPR controlled and has only ever only cost £1 for 1 hour or £2 for two. The display ticket has a barcode which you detach and get refunded at the checkout. It will also permit 15 minutes free without the need to get a free ticket, because of the camera control. Works fine.

However, don't even get me started on the older female drivers' driving, and the younger females in large SUVs parking.

PS….or old ladies wielding their trollies in aisles!
