• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I bought a new parasol, the base for it was not very stable so a patio table with a hole for the parasol to stand in. I looked at lots of different ones online, the one I found on the B and Q site:

I did look at buying one but the details just said it was made of wood, not any sort of wood, just wood. So I set about drawing out some plans to make on that was similar, and made from Iroko.

I did have a session with DaveR on using Sketchup, some time ago, I have the downloads that Dave did for Fine woodworking. I failed to draw all of the details and that did bite me on a couple of things.
I visited Thorogoods and bought a selection of sawn Iroko. I spent some time sawing and planing this into boards for the table. I made the leg frames with mortise and tenon joints, I decided to peg the joints so made some dowels using the off cuts cut from the leg frame.

I them fitted the leg frames together and made a mistake with the hinge placement:

When I got the top wings made they would not of folded down flat against the centre frame, the hinge barrels stopped that happening.
I made the edge frames for the top wings and decided that I would not cut all of the slats for the top down to narrow widths, here #i am glueing the slats into the frame for one side.

With the top on the bench I fitted the leg frame on and made some little ramps for the legs to lock into when in the open position.

The table has been given a coat of Teak garden furniture oil.

That is Skye, our new samoyed, he oversaw the whole build with an interested eye.

This was made in August but I have been a bit busy so its a late posting, sorry.

Looks very good Dave :eusa-clap:

Those Veritas dowel cutters are very handy, I’ve just cut quite a few metres of dowel with one

Lovely table Dave, having it fold like that so you can tuck it away in the winter is a terrific idea.

I never realised that you were ex ICL/Fujitsu. I spent 25 years with ICL in its many guises before I “left” in 2007.

I like that. Very neat, and I suspect rather more work than the write up implies. Hope we get some good weather next summer to thoroughly test it out. :obscene-drinkingbuddies:
