• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Last spring, some of you chaps advised me on building a minimal pergola/ vine frame. I've just been out cutting back lots and lots of leaves in a last-ditch attempt to get the grapes to ripen (I didn't know you're supposed to do that), they do seem to have made an effort the last week in spite of the lack of sunshine.
Til last summer, it hadn't produced any grapes; this year it's been very fruitful. Next year we'll be making our own wine. :-)

Thanks Mark. I planted it 6 or 7 years ago Mike (it's now really too big, invading a couple of trees off-camera - I'll prune it back quite hard in winter), and can't remember the variety, Andy - the little plastic label blew away a while ago. I only really planted it for the leaf cover, the grapes are a happy bonus!

They look great.

Ours (the vine grows into our conservatory) have been poor this year. We had lots of bunches, but a fair proportion of the fruit split and quite a few went mouldy. We struggle to make inroads into them anyway because there are so many, so perhaps having fewer this time will be blessing in disguise!

How long has it been cropping?
Last year was the first crop, so four or five years after planting. I don't know if that's typical.

ps We had another little bonus this year when a Turkish friend prepared a dish of lamb and rice wrapped in the leaves (Etli Yaprak Sarma, the web tells me) for us. :-)

oooh lucky you. I would like to get some vines going.

Me too!
A number of years ago at the old house, I grew quite a few along a fence line. I seem to remember that they rooted quite easily from cuttings.
