• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have been a bit preoccupied in the last week or two as the planning application for 121 houses in the field next to me was getting close to discussion at the Council's planning committee. I was speaking at the Council meeting representing the 300 local people who had objected to the scheme, and with only 3 minutes available I wanted to get my 'speech' exactly right. Whatever I did I knew I couldn't cover everything so was bound to upset somebody as I would not include their pet issue. Worse, if it was approved I half wondered if people say it was because I didn't do a good enough job.

Well the 'speech' went OK and I got a round of applause from the gallery afterwards. A bit of quizzing from a councillor about whether my assertions that the area floods, but giving him a date in August when it last flooded and offering to show pictures if I was allowed to turn my phone on seemed to convince him.

Result, unanimous vote to reject the application :eusa-clap: .

Not all down to my speech by a long chalk, officer had recommended rejection, chairman of parish council also spoke against it and local councillor said he was against it in the meeting, but none the less I was pleased we got the right result and to have avoided being blamed if it were approved.

We fully expect a revised application, but some of the reasons for rejection will be very hard to fix so fingers crossed the next application goes the same way and any follow on appeal finds an inspector with a similar view.

Great result, well done Terry.

I have spoken in a large one of those meetings, against a Gypsy encampment, and it's a nerve racking responsibility, so you have my admiration. :eusa-clap:

I've been involved in an Action Group against a planning application which affected our village
We won the first round when the Council rejected it but lost when it when to a Planning Inspector.
The Developers employed high power QC's and expensive Expert Witnesses which ran rings around our local Councils experts and even brow beat the Inspector. The Council also finished up having to pay the Developers legal costs - £300k!!

Another scheme on the outskirts of Winchester finally "succeeded" after many years of appeals by the Developers and 2000 homes are now being built against Winchester's wishes.

Absolutely Rod. I am 99% certain they will either appeal the rejection or submit a revised application that will still be rejected, but for fewer reasons and then appeal that rejection. Definitely just round 1 I fear.

Good on you Terry! I fear you may be right about long journeys...but small steps at a time. It feels so good doesn't it to win this sort of thing, even if it is only round 1. :D

Newts may be overkill. The field in question already serves as an important feeding ground and transitory route for no less than nine species of bat, has grass snakes present and a rare form of burrowing wasp which is only found in about 30 hectares of land across the UK. And this all from the developers own ecological report. Even so, it seems that is not enough on its own to stop the crusade for house building in the countryside.
