Good to have you with us again and will follow your build with interest, it’s looking good!
I made one for my daughter about the same time...top quality 6mm Birch ply throughout. She never touched it and was totally bored by the very concept of dolls. I recollect at the time there was a really excellent dolls house shop in the city centre; alas now gone years ago - RobLast time I made a dolls house was around 33~34 years ago for my daughter's 4th birthday. Not a patch on your project.
Sorry to hear that Rob. Mine was well chuffed with hers. If I recall properly, we didn't put any furniture in it to start with when we gave it to her... but I could be wrong. She'd use her pocket money to buy things - along with some parental help - and spend time playing with it.I made one for my daughter about the same time...top quality 6mm Birch ply throughout. Still looks great 9 years on now. Tempus fugit .Thanks Andy. We have a large shed. Hope the setlle is doing well.![]()
Thanks Accipiter, and not at all. I have been off the radar for quite a while. Although I am a shadow of the former, I will at least, hopefully, make some effort with progress. This project was really all about living a dream of building a house to my needs and inspirations. The dream remains a dream and that's cool. There was also my masterpiece cabinet I was hoping to build by 2025, but that still only exists in my head. It would be good to see any photos you have of the dolls house.A bit presumptuous of a 'new 'ish' member to say "welcome back" Pinch but... a *Welcome* from me anyway.
Having gone back through your thread and seen your (then) workshop/hobbyshop area - as well as the framework put up - I'll also be following any progress you put up later.

Please, no apologies. It's good to read and share.Sorry to hear that Rob. Mine was well chuffed with hers. I do remember putting finishing touches to it in the early hours of her birthday (2am or 3am?) and carrying it in to the house from the workshop and covering it with either a sheet or tablecloth.
There was a little dolls house shop here in Frome on Catherine Hill which then moved to Warminster... run by an elderly couple. Shame it closed in Frome but I guess it needed to move on. I bought a 'Conservatory' kit from them as the wife wanted one. Easier put together than making the dolls house from scratch
Something I'd not planned for when making it was putting in electrics... should have but time was a bit precious (and money). Eventually I did but it looked untidy and one of the cats chewed the external wires... daughter lost interest over time and we've had it here since it was made - no room at hers. Grandson has a little play now and then - also hiding things in it. Likes to play with the model cats and dogs...
Don't recall what ply I used - may have been birch but couldn't say for sure. I did use some balsawood strips for the tile effect on the roof - and the attic doors... because of the angle for the roof. Must admit it's looking a bit sad and in need of a tidy up/paint job. I'll put up a new thread along with some photos for how it is today. Can't recall taking any when I made it back then... not the sort of thing I gave thought to, sadly.
Apologies to Pinch for my long posting![]()
By golly, 9-years on. I had a reminiscing session last night, accompanied by a few jugs of ale of course.Still looks great 9 years on now. Tempus fugit .
