• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

After the failure of this attempt https://www.thewoodhaven2.co.uk/threads/oops.11453/ I thought it was about time to try again.

The original plan was to use a lignum vitae lawn green bowl but the dimensions of the quaich would not allow. This is yew.

I just need to find someone to engrave something suitable .

Nice work Andy. I had to look up what it is for (Scottish sharing cup, used at weddings).

Its beautiful.
Any wood and metal together is always an aesthetic delIght - to me at least.
Even a cheap galvanised gate latch....

never heard them called that before. First came to my attention during the Commonwealth Games that were held in Glasgow a few years back. They were handed out to all the medal winners. I am reliably informed the word is pronounce quake, but am happy to be corrected.

I made one last year for my son’s wedding which took place in Elgin cathedral (there is one room with a roof, the rest is a ruin) .
The quaich was a part of the ceremony, the fathers dispensed the whiskey and the bride and groom took a drink each.
