• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hoping this is the correct area to put this...

Due to my own stupidity today I'm needing to replace one of my workshop batten 5ft LED lights. I thought "should be easy enough... get another of the same: LAP BF3-1L15NC [1079V] 220-240V~50Hz, 30W (LED) ta=50°C. IP65 21W23"... 🤔 Seems not available as 30W... 🙄

Screwfix (original source) show they have same brand; 5ft at: 28W single 3150lm, 45W twin 4050lm, 55W twin 6300lm and 6ft at 32W single 3650, 59W double 6800lm... Would a 6ft be of benefit? Double... or single?

Looking to stay with same brand as they can be wires in sequence... and add to. Photo shows workshop this evening lit with the one remaining 5ft batten LED - replacement one will go to left-hand side where the no longer working one was.

Today I was intending to continue going through old tools and rubbish but, as the 'shop doesn't have any ceiling as such - only roof rafters and old insulation showing - I decided to use some Soffit board (white t&g effect, plastic) to put a ceiling in... adding to light reflection and such was the hope. However... I had to take down one of the two LED batten lights and put it, still connected, resting on some wood close to where it had been mounted. Problem: I disturbed it, it swung down on the cable but didn't hit the floor. I thought possibly I'd disturbed the wires - they just push in to connectors. Disconnected, checked wires and reconnected, switched on, light flickered twice then nothing! Unit does not allow 'light/tube' to be replaced so it's now for the recycling centre.

I'm no electrician and haven't looked up that particular model, but I think you may be looking at a bit of technical progress between the first purchase and what's available now, with the new model using slightly less electricity for about the same light output, or more.

I think these things are so cheap now that we have to accept that a few duds will slip through.

Time flies and I don't remember when I fitted these.

In many ways I'm still 'old school' and have troubles remembering they are no longer fluorescent tubes 🙄. Same in some ways with LED light bulbs and the Watts equivalent today compared to *yesterday years*... oh well!

I get where you're coming from Andy. I'm now coming round to thinking a 6ft replacement for this one 5ft - not a great deal more money. Appreciate your response 👍

Just to update this... committed myself to the 6ft single 32W/3650lm. Bought and fitted this afternoon in 5 minutes - would have been 2 minutes but the securing ring connector at the ends is a different shape/designing. Had to remove the cable securing section from the locking connector.

The 6ft does add additional light further down the length of the workshop - as would be expected. Fully recommend for the ease of connecting power, fitting to ceiling and being able to connect up to 5 together.

Well... after fitting the 6ft replacement batten I happened to catch the cable joining it to the 1st batten (you can link up to 5 of these) and the 6ft flickered but stayed on... had me wondering if the cable may have a fault - it's old anyway.

Decided to connect the 'broken' 5ft to a length of cable, plugged it in, switched on - it worked 💪. Today, along with a couple of other jobs, I changed over the cables and connected the (now) three lights together - and slightly repositioned them. Just need to replace the cable from the switch. Used some Orange coloured cable, probably from an old electric lawnmower I no longer have. Did think of running it under the Soffit board T&G plastic board through the void but, as I've got/am using insulation in the void, it's advised not to. So the Orange cable is presently a visible reminder to be wary of catching.
