Sip sander drive belt

hi guys.just wondering if anyone has the sip disc and belt sander model 01331(older model)?I'm having trouble locating a drive belt for same.sip have discontinued this belt and I don't have da original belt off it so I don't have the spec for it.sip also cannot give me the spec for it!!any help would be greatly appreciated. Hello, and welcome!
Here's a recent thread which might help somewhat, should you have a job sourcing one locally from a belt supplier,
or UK or EU tool dealer, then there's names and the models of a few other companies still selling them,
in the thread on the Ozzy site.

Failing finding something suitable, (I've yet to replace mine)
It seems most of the trapezoidal cogged belts are for the smaller machines,
but if you register on the above forum, you'd see this picture, which seems like it looks the most promising.

Be interested to know if my local agri belt supplier stocks them, should these indeed be what I assume,
is just an off the shelf belt.

Hi tom.thanks a million for taking the time to reply.i think you mite be right in thinking the record power BDS 250 might have the same timing belt.the machines look identical.however they are out of stock on most of the sites I've been on.so I will continue the search!thanks again for your help

Sorry I can't be of more help, but hope some others can mention what may be suitable for you.
As you see, many companies sell this sander, Rikon in north America possibly being the biggest retailer of them I suppose,
should that still be the case, not that you'd want to get spares of them with the postage...
which I'd guess is the same, even with the 60hz motors on those tools.
Some leeway regarding somethings it seems, though I must admit my old stretched belt is a fecker to track!.

These all seem for the smaller model...
but why have three listings?, I'd bet that the service they have in person, might be better than the website.

If they are anything like my local place, they would tell you in an instant, on even a very damaged/stretched one.
i.e when I go buy a belt, the guy nearly has the belt sized up before the door is open!

What's notable, and worth showing is the black rubber, rather than the urethane jelly like belt
whats came with my Axminster sander, and many others.
I don't know anything about belts, but this suggests to me, that the material doesn't necessarily need to be
made of urethane (or whatever material)

I haven't tried to take measurements of mine, and only posting these pics of random belts,
should others be able to mention
if one could find these easily?



Perhaps someone here can suggest there would be plenty of sizes available should these type fit.
Worst case scenario being the belts are too wide, and might need a trim hopefully. (fingers crossed)

Hi tom.once again thank you so much for taking the time to reply and go to the trouble of searching up belts and posting them.much appreciated.
I was actually able to source da record power bds 250 timing belt last Saturday in joe mc kennas limerick(record power dealer)it fitted my sip machine like a glove!bought a second one for good measure.they were a bit on the expensive side but after 3 weeks of searching I wasn't too bothered about the cost.
One question you might be able to identify with.the top pulley seems to be slightly out of line with the bottom one.the belt overhangs the bottom pulley by about 4 mm.the top pulley has a washer to stop belt sliding off.machine is working fine but I'm wondering will it have a long term effect on the belt.tried seeing if I could take off top pulley to see if I could sit it back in line with the other pulley but couldn't loosen it and didn't want to mess around too much as I'm not that familiar with it.any advice welcomed.thanks tom

Have you tried 'phoning SIP and asking what the size of belt was used? They should have that data on record even if discontinued. I have one of their table saw sand though it's a long while ago I found their technical guys to be more than helpful when I needed advice and a part.

Also search for an original or copy of the original manual on line as they often have that info included.

I'm guessing these machines are on the way out, in favour of another design with integral dust collection,
though I'd hope this is not the case.
Re- belt tracking, I've modified my machine, which made things slightly more difficult,
and did for interests sake, look up some manual or another for tips on such.

The advice given being, to loosen the platen assembly
(the mount which has four bolts to connect to the cast iron base)
but not the motor, and play around with things.

Should you read that linked thread, you'll see that these belts aren't as durable as say a v belt,
"a tangle of yellow string" to quote the other thread.

I guess these can be trickier to track when old, simply reversing the belt might even sort things.
(did for me the last time)
I looked into things well after the below photo was taken, as I modified things later on,
and found that ... (with my old belt anyway)
tracking of the belt was only possible when the shafts or outside faces of the two pulleys were leaning away from each other,
(which can be done with the suggested adjustment mentioned above)
It's only a degree, maybe two, but not say 5 degrees.

Hi.i did contact sip directly but they could not tell me the belt spec.tbh I thought their customer service left alot to be desired.i looked at the manual and that had no info on belt spec.ive since sourced the belt.its the same timing belt as the record power BDS 250.i also tried ringing that company belting online several times but could not get through. All good now anyway. Thanks for your post.

Glad you're sorted Paddy.
That's a shame about SIP. As I said it was quite a while ago for me but when I got through to ther right depatment the technical guys knew exactly what they were talking about and very happy to help. Maybe the experienced staff have all retired.

not a great recommendation for beltonline either by the look of it.
