• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Anyone else getting plagued by a spate of meaningless emails? No dodgy attachments. Nothing....just a load of vaguely constructed sentences. I mean...what is the point?

Usually Demon is pretty good at filtering these out but a lot are still getting through.

Obviously not replying ...bit pointless as they are coming from bot-infested PCs anyway.
 
Nothing untoward here?

Spam filter currently has 3579 spam mails in it and is auto emptied on a rolling 30 day period so average of 1200 per day. Normal content is probably 3200 to 3800. It is all managed by Virgin and not easy to get any stats other than noting down the numbers manually.

nothing changed here with yahoo. The normal 3 or 4 a day make it through the filter which is normal.
 
This is a typical content.

State Route 243 meets its northern terminus. Alcatraz closed and its prisoners were transferred to Marion, which became the highest security prison for men. The cavities are filled in with epoxy. Its recommendations however carry no legal power and are sometimes disregarded even by governmental authorities. I want to slag off all the people in charge of radio stations.

Grammatically correct if rubbish. I've fired up SpamSieve on theMac but it's going to take a long time to train it to recognise these.
 
This sort of content is not that unusual as it will generally fool even a clever spam filter as it reads as sensibly constructed sentences even if there is no overall meaning. Usually there will a payload in there either in the text itself but effectively diluted by the rest of the text or worse still some hidden wormy file. If you auto execution of attachments blocked - which I hope you do as a principle - then it is not likely to do you much harm.

Try and cut down on all those dodgy places that you must visit to find the pictures that you post from time to time esp on WUK.

Auto-load of attachments? It's a Mac and there ain't anything that will run without me having to enter my password at root level. :D
