• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Well, lets get this section spinning while we wait for Doug and Andy to pitch up.

This was a nice square blank of Madeira Rosewood, finished with danish oil.
The timber merchant supplies turning blanks.

I will see where the rest of the pics are and add them in.

Bugger, I wanted to get back in time to make the first post.
I like those 3 or 4 together, all different heights in a group as a table centre would look really cool.
 
Twice a year the Hardware Centre in Randburg have woodworking shows, where tool suppliers do demos of what their tools can do.
There are also demos of turning and scolling and people selling their work.
(The Hardware Centre are not a typical hardware store. They only stock woodworking equipment and supplies http://www.hardwarecentre.co.za/web/)

One of the exhibitors is Country Woods and they sell turning blanks at the show.
I bought 2 blanks, 1 Red Oak and 1 Madeira Rose wood.

Thanks for the WIP Phil. I'll have to try finishing with Danish oil on the lathe. Have just ordered some more.
 
Very nice they are too but you need to be very careful with T lights being directly in wood. There is a significant fire risk if they're not in a holder (like I've done in these dish T light holders below>



My brother set fire to his bathroom with t lights directly in wooden candle holders....fire brigade job. I'm not kidding, the little metal surround of the t-lght isn't enough of a barrier against natural wood. The good news is IKEA sell those t light holders in various colours very cheaply. Hopefully you have equivalent suppliers locally in country???
 
Nice little WIP but have to agree I use the glass inserts I get mine from Wilkinsons

I have looked for the small glass inserts, no luck so far.

I buy the candles from an ExcitementStore (similar to your 1GBP store) but have never seen the inserts.
The Consol Glass retail store also never have any.

When I give the candle holders away, I always attach the safety instructions and fire warnings.

maybe add a fire extinguisher and life insurance in the packaging :-)
