• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Bob9f came over yesterday to do some stuff in the 'shop and a very pleasant couple of hours we had making sawdust. He also brought over some yummy, home brewed ginger cake....

...which has had a very short life expectancy. This was the state of the tin at coffee time this morning. We like cake, cake is good :D :D - Rob

We like cake too. We just don't get enough of the good stuff.

I've got that recipe just waiting for some golden syrup so we can try it.

Five of you Andy, two of us :D - Rob

Blimey! the keeping qualities are indeed proving to be poor.

I'm guessing there were 12 chunks when I arrived and Rob and I had one each washed down with some delicious coffee. So 10 pieces approx when I left at lunchtime yesterday.

Glad it is being appreciated anyway even if it is being put out for the birds

A very pleasant few hours spend in Robs shop and another piece of kit on my "must have" list having seen Robs in action.

Alyson had three lumps  when she came in from her first day at work. New b/s blade ordered today, should be here Wed or definitely Thursday - Rob

I got one too. Not quite sure which guilt trigger I managed to trip last night but I ended up with a ginger cake too.

So how come it doesn't look like yours? It was the BBC recipe that you sent me Bob. Claire did manage to tip a bit of extra ginger in but I do not mind that. It has a consistency that I can only describe as stodgy and is very sticky on top. Tastes OK mind.

The only difference in my ingredients is that I scale the quantities by 1.5 to fit our tin better but this means I use two eggs not one.
Mine takes 2-3 days to become sticky so perhaps longer cooking time? Mine tends to be about 40 minutes 180 fan.
As long as it tastes ok, keep experimenting and you can always eat it with custard!!

Good luck
Bob

I've no idea how long they cooked it. I seem to remember the destructions saying cook between 30mins and one hour.
I'll tell the head chef Bob, but she can get a bit touchy if I criticise. ;)

My favourite ginger cake recipe includes dates, it a bit like a sticky toffee pudding but in cake form, once it's baked you skewer the top and pour a caramel sauce over the top and leave it to soak in, I've adapted it into a pudding by poaching pears in stones ginger wine which are tipped over the cake while it's hot. It's one of the most requested things from family and friends.
I'll post recipe when I get home if anyone's interested
