• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Having actually done very little scroll work this year, helping GS edged me on to cut 2 trees.
GS education:

The left tree is similar to GS except I kept all the rounded corners.
The lights are same as previous years. Uses 1 flat round battery.

The second tree is based on a plan using cut bits and gluing. That looked like a lot of work, so I just drilled some holes and cut out the inside bit.
The lights have 3 settings - fast flash, slow flash, static. It has 3 small round batteries.

Bought from local General Store for ZAR10.00 each. About 43p

GS & GD will each get a set for Xmas to use on their own trees.

The pic was taken during a flashing-light-sound-thunder storm.

GS and I had a third session on Tuesday, forgot to take a pic. Different design and apart from the sawing he also had to drill with Forstners, a 40mm and 50mm hole.

This is the last tree for 2025 (yes I know we are in 2026, but I am a bit behind with my work)

When cutting the tree below, there are 2 side offcuts which can be used again to create a new tree.

Here are the 2 sides joined and getting a star

The base, 8mm thick, marked out ready for sawing.

Cut - it is a lot easier and more accurate to cut thicker wood.

Therefore a bit of sanding required.

Base glued & screwed.

Lastly the lights - idea is to drill holes for 3mm or/and 5mm led's and wire it up permanently.
This is where the multi meter would be used, to build a control unit.
(just don't hold your breath :cautious:)
