• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Unusual winter weather.

Interesting. We are having weird weather. The first snow of the winter was at least 2 weeks later than normal. We had a real blizzard on Wednesday last week, and 1 day when it was -10C, but today all the snow has melted and the temperature has been +5C. Really unseasonably warm. There is now no snow on the ground here and we may not have a white Christmas - the first time this has happen in the 20+ years I have lived at this location.

[Edit due to autocorrect completely changing the meaning!]

We're still having autumn, rather than winter. We'll probably have a week or two of winter in Jan/ Feb, then straight into spring, as usual these days. We really have messed up the climate.

Heavy frost here today in Kent. Proper brass monkeys. We've had brief non-settling snow twice in the past month. Also had cats and dogs one day and 14C the next. Recently had three days of bone dry and warm (last week) when tree cutters were here, which was helpful. It's very variable. Rained all day yesterday (torrential) and sunny today but really cold. Toboggans are history I think.

I remember that green xmas. In 2003 snow started the first week of November, 3' depth within a week.

The herbaceous perennials in the garden died back a few weeks ago after we’d had a couple of frosts ❄️ I noticed this weekend the rhubarb & a hardy geranium had thrown up new leaves  The geranium also has a flower bud, most unseasonal.

I watched this the other evening

I can remember (just) some of the problems..

Our snowdrops are just showing through the soil.

Every 12 years or so we have abnormal winters , I hope this is the norm otherwise I am concerned.
Interesting.
commented to her majesty, the other day that nobody seems to talk about sunspot activity vs the weather.
Maximum at the moment and usually a 11 year (IIRC) cycle.

Its the solstice-Persophone begins her return!
My bees were all out foraging gorse this morning- usually theyre a lot less active at this time of year

Walked up the garden today & noticed tulips poking up
One good thing about this strange weather is the winter flowering clematis are full of flowers

Usually by now the frosts have knocked them back.

It's the damp/humidity that is the problem in the UK. It was 10 deg the other day and it felt a LOT colder than the -5 we had when I was skiing in the Alps the week before.

Our weird weather continues. A few days ago it was -10 but today it is +4 and all the snow has melted. Christmas without snow seems really odd.

It's cold here at the moment. -5c this morning and a high of only -3C. But there is a small upside. This photo does not do it justice, but this was the view from the village this morning:morning mist laplagne.jpg

The sky was a gorgeous colour with sunrays cutting through the mist. The white is frost rather than snow. Beautiful.

Snowdrops…one of the few things I miss from the old place
Plenty of places to see the (wild) snowdrops 'down this way' Roger - along with wild garlic and wild daffodils... then Bluebells. Walks through Stourhead woods and various others 👍.

The dogs will only go out to relieve themselves, no walks obviously, this morning they were out and in for five mins.

We have to do similar on extreme midge days, but they’re climbing the walls if it’s two in a row. We have to entertain them inside the house or they’ll start to entertain themselves.
