• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I’ve an external door at my mums house that hasn’t been used in over 10 years, house will be on market soon and so really needs to be operational.
However, i can’t get it open, seems as though the multipoint slide is’nt sliding, nor the “mortice” part of the lock releasing.
I’ve thumped bange, jiggled and adjust hinges everywhich way, can get past a couple of the slide mushrooms but not all.
So want to undo the hinges, but these are

Haps Colonial, for which apparently you can’t remove without destroyin them, not a problem so long as i can then put new ones on, hopefully then i can get door off.

Does anyone know about these hinges? Looking at the manufactureres website, it looks asthough if i cut off the internal covers i should be able to release the screws. Would i be right?

Any tips appreciated.

I know this is stating the obvious, but are you aware that to release the locking mechanism the door handle needs to be pulled up sharply? We have a door like this (soon to be an ex door) and the handle needs a good slam upwards sometimes.

Careful. Mine is the direct opposite. Manufacturers difference I suspect.

Now, to me, that suggests a disconnect between handle and mechanism? A faint bell is ringing, from long time back when I dickered with a PVC door. Something tells me to advise you to get the handle and lock plate off, check the spindle is still engaging. If it isn't, that would explain the mortice 'tongue' not withdrawing into the door. It might also prevent the internal slider mechanism from being engaged? Photos would help, especialy if you can se a maker's mark.

Yes, there’s another door on the house that was fitted at same time , that works fine and i used same actions on this door. However since posting, i took more drastic action and cut the hinge covers off and could then detach them, then wrangle door off.
Yale multipoint mechanism, all nice clean stainless on the exposed face, but the sliding plate behind just plated steel, that had rusted and swollen so nothing was sliding . To the extent that it had to be brocken off to access the fixing for the euro cylinder, anyway all out , i have lots of bits and an online supplier looking to find a replacement.

Many thanks all.
