• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I'm still here :) I've been away on a long cruise holiday to miss the cold weather. It nearly worked.

30 ish years ago I was working all hours and wasn't into woodworking anyway and the bedroom needed furniture. We had a local firm install wardrobes and fitted drawer units etc. and they did a good job. Can't say I'm crazy now about vinyl wrapped MDF but it is all in good condition - with one exception.
The bay window has 2 sets of drawers and has a fitted worktop on it again vinyl wrapped. I'm sure it was fine before the holiday but came back to find a ripple along it where the vinyl had come off.

Took it off and moved it to the landing -

And lifting the vinyl

There is a large area not glued any more. The profiled front edge seems sound.

So long post for a short question what to stick it back with?

I guess it would have been heat activated glue and vacuum that made it stick originally. it's 2.5m long and 0.5m wide so I don't think ironing would work. I'm thinking maybe the glue I used when I EPDM'd The shed and workshop rooves (sp?) - evo stick like stuff. Thoughts?

I have made a few counters using plastic laminated sheets which I glued down using a contact adhesive to both top of the base wood and under side of the sheet. Wait till both surfaces are no longer tacky before carefully setting the sheet on top.
Not knowing what adhesives have been used in your case, so a test needs to be done to determine compatibility.

Contact adhesive would be my recommendation Robert as long as both surfaces are smooth and grease free.

I fitted a huge amount of vinyl wrap doors for kitchen, bathroom and bedroom built in and never a single problem with it. I had a trade account with Browns 2000 who have several large factories only a few miles from here so I've been into and watched their production facilities many times. They are indeed heat and pressed. I had a full range of sample doors kept for years in a damp shed and the vinyl never separated, I still have a few,

Do what I did recently with 28 kitchen doors - stripped off the plastic and painted them. The adhesive that's there is a good primer and it's easy to get a good finish with rollered water based paint.

I'll have a go at sticking it tomorrow. Not sure how easy it will be to coat the flap of vinyl so I'll try that first. if it's awkward I think you can get spray on contact adhesive so that will be plan B. Pictures to follow..

Spray would be my choice. I usually have a can to hand though I've found once it's first used it doesn't seem to have a long shelf life

I've found my can of contact adhesive and it is still liquid but there are so many health warnings on the can I think I need to be outside...and rain is coming. Maybe better to order some safer spray adhesive so to be continued....

Screwfix do spray adhesive and they are open Sunday so..

Out to the workshop and it looks worse.

The front edge was still stuck so i protected it from me accidentally pulling it off with some clamped on metal.

Plan was to coat it and let it down slowly while rubbing it down from the clamped edge. I had a cls batten and a length of square drainpipe I'd bought once to get a strip of white PVC from. That can go in the bin now.

The plastic stuck to the dry adhesive the batten didn't.

And finished

Now i could claim it was perfect from the picture but I have found one bubble still present near that blue bar in the distance. I doubt Mrs will notice and I can live with it so it is now refitted.

Screwfix need to speak to someone that can design a spray nozzle. It sprayed but dribbled at the same time. I managed to glue my fingers together at one point. White spirit and cellulose thinners set me free.
