• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Where do we go for good table saw blades now?

I'm trying to find a blade for my small tablesaw - it's only got a 200mm blade.

I've bought half a dozen lately and they all seem aimed at the portable circular saw - they're all extremely thin and flutter like crazy when trying to cut an inch or so of hardwood, no good for the chessboards I make.

Since Doug at cutting solutions retired I'm struggling to find anything of the quality he used to supply. I have one of his blades here and the body is 2.75mm thick. I'm not in the workshop but I'm guessing the Freud is 1.2'ish

This is his compared to a Freud blade (same size and same amount of teeth).

Any suggestions?

That is a very good image of the difference in quality of two blades. Many more sharpenings out of the grey one.
I generally use Freud and, by and large, I am happy with them. I did buy something when I went to the USA last autumn (more to have as a useful memento as anything), but I can't remember the brand and I've not yet installed it, I just remember it is black.
It's a shame Doug has retired. I have one of his FTG blades for doing box joints. Top quality and not as easy to come by as they used to be.

I think that Doug used to sell Aktinson Walker. You could try contacting them directly and see what they an offer.

Cheers Steve - the grey one is actually one of his FTG blades !

Peri that blade should be good for cross cutting timber and cutting board material, it will not be to good at ripping solid wood.

I have several of the thinner blades I mentioned earlier for ripping. I'll use that thick blade mainly to sneak up to a dimension, removing fractions of a mm at a time.

I used to used these and can say they are great to use

and also blades from here which are also great to use

who also do these if you have an odd sized shaft
