• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Another little infill plane

I managed to snap this up for £15 recently and unlike the last one which was too far gone for sympathetic restoration this doesn't look bad so I'll be taking time and care to keep it as original as possible. The casting is around 7" long and the plane has a lovely balance in the hand. Plenty of wear left in the blade and nice rosewood handles with only what looks like one minor repair.
No makers marks on the plane just a previous owner's stamp so I don't know the history which is a shame.

It's traditional at this point to make a sarcastic comment based on jealousy of your extraordinary good fortune at finding such a potentially gorgeous plane for so little cash... But I'll just say you did very well there...:)

I've never studied infills much, on the basis that I can't afford to collect them*, but I have a vague notion that the distinctive decorative shape of the top of the screw on the lever cap is associated with Spiers, but don't take that as accurate without corroboration from elsewhere.

(*Though I could at that sort of price!)

I couldn't believe I got it at that price Andy, it had just been listed on facebook locally and I was first to respond properly rather than the couple of standard "is it available" button. I just said yes please I'd love to buy it when can I collect and gave my mobile number. I'm not usually that lucky.
She had a Stanley 5 1'2 and a 4 1/2 as well, £20 each in good condition but I have them and don't need duplicates otherwise....

I don't really care who made it, probably a lunchbox plane but would have loved to know who's hands had used it over the years and on what.
