• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. Another "Which Planer Thicknesser" thread.

I have good news Ian. After much deliberation, I can see the need for this machine during the renovation work. CDA wants new doors, for example! So here we go again. Friendly neighbouring farmer has a small telehandler. I have a company who can ship the Hammer from A to B. I’ve laid in the new cable to start the power run using SWA.

After it’s all over then we shall see.
 
Well done, that’s a brisk bit of sorting!
I have a new workshop door to make soon, the last one I made was to have Bolection mouldings around the panels but it never got finished.
Maybe now I’m retired I shall do this one properly!
Googled CDA but no wiser I’m afraid.

And then……

This story has more twists than a lighthouse has stairs.

A recent external and totally unpredictable event has now precluded the continuation of the Hammer being moved as a viable option. So scrap man it is and then it will be the Small Claims Court…

How annoying. Could you not sell it as spares and repairs to someone rather than scrap it entirely? I’m sure you would get a bit more than scrap value from someone who fancies a jigsaw puzzle.

Nice idea Dan but not with everything going on with the house. I’m seeking catharsis.
 
Roger, if you plan further ahead you might be able to pre plan for the next move. Think of how they move stuff for theaters where everything has it's own box or container and is quickly packed up and transported. If your machines had all had a dedicated storage crate which you essentially wrap round the machine once on the base then any decent transportation company would soon load up and get them to your next home.

I would be looking out for my wallet! A scrap man will pay a pittance for it when someone could either make use of the parts or rebuild the machine, the three motors alone will have a market value more than the scrap value of the whole machine.

You could always ring up a reasonably local machinery dealer to see if they will take it off your hands for more than a scrap man will offer. They might find it worthwhile to recommission the machine and sell it on.
 
Won't parting out the machine or keeping parts cause issues with a claim in court? How would a judge be able to determine the value of the loss if Roger breaks it up?

That's why I suggested selling it complete to someone else, I also imagine Roger hasn't got the patience to sell parts anyway!

If you sell it to a dealer and ask for a receipt for the sale, that's your value of loss determined. Will you get a receipt from a regular rag 'n bone scrap man unless you take it to the big yard yourself? Very unlikely.
 
Unless Roger can sell the saw to someone who knows how to commission it, or has access to someone who can commission it, the value would likely be much less than the value as it was before the transport company touched it. There's no telling if any parts are missing since it was not disassembled by an appropriately trained Felder technician.

Before the transport company touched it, the saw was a fully functional machine. Now it is a collection of parts. If this was mine, I would hold the parts and purchase invoice as Exhibit A until a court determines fault and compensation.

The commissioning would be picked up by the removals company,….I have that in writing. Trouble is that they need 1m all round to work in… not that hard to achieve I admit. The kicker is they’d want to power it up. Not possible at the rental.

But I did have a guy interested in buying it but turned him down when I decided to keep it to make some doors. I approached him again after the ‘event’ that rendered me keeping it fraught. He’d bought one off eBay but was interested in my power feeder and came round tonight to buy the power feeder. He offered me £2500 for the Hammer which I accepted. Dan’s points re a receipt is an excellent one.
