We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. 20 years ago I made this for my father in law. With the exception of the shiplap on the backside it is made entirely from cedar and it still smells today how a greenhouse should.

I dismantled it yesterday on preparation for a move to my sister-in-law and it seems that the hinges holding the secondary glazing panels have not faired too well. I suppose 20 years outdoors for something design for internal use aint bad.

Fortunately I have a few spares but what I do not have are those steel pins that the hinges pivot on. At some stage 2 of the glass panels had been screwed shut when the hinges broke for some reason.

So I am on the scrounge. Does anybody need to clear out some unwanted 4mm (5/32”) steel rod from their workshop? I only need 2 pieces 11/8th”(28.58mm) long.
I furnish a UK address and will of course cover postage.

I've got some. 0.156 inches or 3.94mm so I guess it's an inch size really. One piece, about 5" or 130mm long. Steel, but possibly a hardened or stainless grade. Let me know if you want it.
 
It looks like you're sorted Andy but if not I have at least one old medium size electrical screwdriver wit a 4mm shaft probably 100mm or more in length. It's hardened steel so just give a shout if you need it. I may still have your UK address.
 
Thanks Bob, Andy has indeed solved the problem. I did go around the workshop with my gauge trying to find something suitable without success.

In the past I've sacrificed a twist drill for its shank, a short length of flute hidden in the hinge boss seems to be happy to live with a bit of epoxy to stop it too working its way out.
 
I was worried that the edges of flutes might rub on the inside of the hole and become sloppy. I couldn’t possible glue them in place as the screws that hold the hinges to the frame can only be tightened or replaced with the pin removed,
This was how I loosened a stuck pin to do just that earlier . Removed the tip from a soldering iron and popped the shaft over the stuck pin for 10 mins.

What is best to use, oil or grease to prevent a reoccurrence?
 
That brings back memories of helping mates rebuilding engines. Hadn’t thought of that, nor seen nor heard of it in decades. I will see if I can find some locally.
