• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    New toy

CSI - you'll be able to solve American crimes with that Wallace ! But seriously, a shaper is a machine I'd like to add to my workshop. Shame there's no room, no budget, and no skills to operate one... (sigh). Cheers, Vann.

    Working No. 3s

When it comes to smoothing, I have a damaged Record "warfinish" No.04ss for general work, and a Clifton No.3 that I keep well honed for extra fine work. I love the No.3 - and I have large-ish hands. These are my workhorses Top: repaired Record No.05 jack; middle: Record No.04ss with chunk...

    Rapier Gateshead England braces.

Now Geoff, just because some of us live "downunder" doesn't mean you have to tease these Brits with upside down photos ;) I too am intrigued by that bulbous ratchet mechanism on the second brace. Tell us more. As the past owner of a couple of Rapier 400s (No.4s), a 500, and a 110 block plane...

Development of the Wadkin RB Surface Planer.

I've quietly been adding more RBs to the lists, but the thread needs a bump. As part of a separate project, I've been working on establishing Test dates for Wadkin machines leaving the Green Lane works in Leicester. This has taken on extra importance as Wallace has decided to discontinue his...

    I do wish ....

You lot are miserable gits ;) . While it could be colder, and often is windier, it's the middle of winter and blimmen miserable over here right now. Cheers, Vann :eusa-violin: .

    wadkin RU lathe restoration

Looking through a 1925 Sagar catalogue for something else last night, I stumbled across this. Same theme (moving bed) but not half as nice as the Wadkin RU. Cheers, Vann.

    Wadkin PK restoration

I don't reckon they would look right all polished up, and the fettling marks may not take on the same patina as the rough cast surfaces - so I reckon paint. Auscab on the Aussie forum has finally got all the missing bits for his PK - including a rip fence (painted yellow), a main mitre from a...

    Record 043 - thingy

What Lurker said. A vertical rod with a flat horizontal foot - and the knob to tighten it. I use mine to make slots for box lids - including the box that houses my two 043s... Cheers, Vann.

    Wadkin PK restoration

That motor is different (as you'll know, having overhauled many PKs by now). I guess it's not a ZF. That whole front bearing arrangement is unusual. The the front bearing itself is an RM 11 whereas the ZF motor has an RM 9 bearing. I can't work out which number the rear bearing is, but I hope...

Development of the Wadkin RB Surface Planer.

I've quietly been adding more RBs to the lists, but the thread has slowly been dropping down and might soon be on page three  :eusa-snooty: It needs a bump. So here are two more RBs, early ones, to add. RB 308 and RB 349. RB 308. RB 349. Both surface planers appear to share the...

    Wadkin PK restoration

You may remember sending me a horn handle for my Wadkin LP recessor. The hole in the handwheel for that is also tapped (1/2" BSW). You're looking at it all wrong. Rotate it. You can see it's obviously 'W's for 'Wadkin' :eusa-whistle: I'll get my coat... Cheers, Vann.

    Wadkin PK restoration

Hmmm. I suppose you could pick up a better condition fence plate off a later machine, but I guess most of the other battle scars you'll have to live with. I can't tell, is the blade flask aluminium or cast iron/brass? Cheers, Vann.

    Wadkin PK restoration

Hi wallace. I have a picture of the tag off PK 110 (in Scotland) and of the test page. After seeing that mess they made with the tilt gear on PK 115... ... I tried to blow up the only photo I have of that part of PK 110.As far as I can make out, PK 110 has a cast boss there. That would suggest...

    Wadkin DH bandsaw

I'm not sure. I've run a 5/8" blade in my bandsaw for most of the 5-6 years I've owned the machine, so I haven't experimented. The 5/8" blade only comes in contact with the front two of the three plastic strips on each side, so there's no wear occurring on the third strip. I guess if it had...

    Wadkin DH bandsaw

They're Chaco guides - a Swiss company that still makes bandsaw guides. I have Chaco guides on my Preston (Canada) bandsaw and bought replacement plastic/resin guide bushes from Switzerland a couple of years ago. They were very good to deal with. Scrit reckoned they were the best guides...
