• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Yesterday. What a day !

Fulfilled my boyhood dream. Up for a hour. Flew it for 75% of the time and even did a few rolls. They used to say that you wore the Spitfire like a coat and I can see why.

Afterwards Charlie (my pilot) told me that not very many first time flyers in the Spitfire have flown aerobatics.

A magical day.

I will try and pull together a more meaningful post with more photos and video in a few days and maybe a bit more explanation as to what happens if anyone is interested

I've just seen somewhere that they are planning to build one or two new 2 seater Spitfires from scratch. Much cheaper, apparently, than restoring old ones.

I think that that will be the Aerolite Spitfire Type 433. Currently looking for further investment.

Coincidentally, a P51 flew over our house about 1/2 hour ago
I'll up that and see you Al. A coupla years ago I was in the 'shop and heard the screaming roar of turbojets at very low altitude. I legged it outside and saw the 'Blue Angels':

Edit - sorry, wasn't that lot but 'The Thunderbirds' in 2017

Looks like you had a good day for it Roger and lived up to expectations. It will be good to see more.

I’d recommend (if you’ve not already read it) First Light by Geoffrey Wellum.

Hope you didn’t see a hun in the sun.
Reach for the Sky was one of the first books I remember reading as a teenager. Douglas Bader an inspiration. I still have the book.
I’d certainly jump at the opportunity but not at that price.

By coincidence there has been a Spitfire flying over here last weekend and this. Having seen it for the second time today I thought I would find out why. It turns out it is flying out of Tatenhill, just 5 minutes up the road. They do a choice of 3 flights, one of which is the Dambuster run over Lady Bower. https://flyaspitfire.com/flights/45-minute-dambusters-spitfire-flight/
I need to get saving!

Im currently making a guest appearance in the Dulux catalogue as Emerald Envy.
But just think of all the football you missed out on.......... 😊

We are super lucky in that we get spitfires over the house several times every day as we are between Biggin and headcorn and on the route for White Cliffs. Often practising light aerobatics in show season. I also volunteer occasionally at a repair / service facility nearby which is fantastic and help out at air shows sometimes. Occasional test flights, and I am allowed to taxi and run up the engines every now and again. Makes me emotional every time. Two friends are display pilots. The sound of the Merlin is burnt into my mind. Have PPL & Instruments, but don't fly much these days. We get the occasional Mustang over too. Very occasionally a bit of exotica as there is FW190 replica and ME109 (genuine I think) as part of a display set up.
