• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Larger router bit use. P

Good evening all. I’m looking to increase the size of an existing barrel channel in a rifle stock, currently it’s 34mm and i want to increase it to 38mm, i’ve bought a core box cutter to do so. However i’ve never used a cutter that large that’s going to be cutting on two sides at the same time...

    Smart Meters

Thanks all, i’m not interested in displays. I may not have explained too well, the meters are for the landlords supply, they only cover common area lighting, fire alarms , exterior lighting and tv distribution. I just need to ne sure that the supply won’t be interrupted or else the common area...

    Smart Meters

I have 2 small blocks of flats, the landlords supply covers the lighting ,tv distribution and firealarm system covering the common areas. Currently on a standard meter and no issues. However the tariff...

    Listed Building? Or wishful thinking?

It’s worth remembering that a councils Listed Building Duties are discretionary and the fees they can charge in no way cover the costs. Which is why many push you towards pre application advice, which effectively is a full application that you pay whatever fee they feel fit ( as it falls outside...

Telegraph sub cancellation - heads up

I went through the cancellation rigmarole in february, they had no interest in offering any sort of deal other than the full 200 plus , i cancelled, not worth that sort of money for what has become abysmal articles by “reporters” almost certainly working from home and just chucking bits together...

    Replacement for old glass

Cheers gents, using some of your words and terms in my searches have thrown up some much better results. Seems that ideally i need cylinder glass, but unfortunately that is just not an economical expenditure for such an inexpensive item. A suggestion elsewhere was just to wait for / find a...

    Replacement for old glass

Good day all I’ve developed an interest in Oertling balances, recently picked up one at auction and it’s missing a glass panel in the cabinet. They were made a in 1890 and so the glass is not the perfect float of today. It’d look better with a replacement that is similar to the original, lots...

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

Probably best described as a bit of Whimsy, back in the mid 30’s the then owner of my place married a german lady with arty tendencies, had this mini oasthouse added to the garden wall outside what would then have been their sitting room. The previous mini cowl was little more than a rotted...

Show us your Box Shutter latches.

Would you be able to adapt a small mortice lock? Ie marry the key to whatever sort of turn you had in mind. If so look on ebay for reclaimed cabinet locks. Something like this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324880549779 ... Sw3ZhdJNEU Though finding a set of six may be a problem. But not...

    Name stamp history

Following on from the current thread regarding name stamps, i’ve always liked tools that have multiple names stamped into them and the history that infers. Wooden planes and chisels seemingly the items that collect the most marks. This was one of my late fathers, a 7/8 ish gouge. P. Johnson...

Time for a new bench (dog holes)

Benches seem to reflect users and their individual varied outlooks and attitudes. The picture below is my late fathers , last one he built 23 years of use upto his passing in 2010. As a kid i used to go to work with him one week each summer in my school holidays from age of about 7 -14 ( when i...

    Startrite 352

Evening gents, my bandsaw is playing up, it’s switch was replaced many years ago by the look of it with a Crabtree unit. However over last 3 months i’ve had to strip it down 3 times and clean up the slide/contactor. To me it seems that the coil is overheating and distorting the contactor housing...

Good day all A relative who lives in rural wales is hoping to downsize, several positive viewings but each time the lack of fibre broadband has been a seemingly significant stumbling block. The village 400 yds away has it as do properties further out from said village, the house is served by BT...
