• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Ash trees...Good News!

I just revisited the link to the Channel 4news article Rob... reread this bit: "Indeed the science is so simple, the ingredients so ubiquitous, that the next stage is to put out a simple recipe that you, me and all of us can perform on the kitchen table." Hopefully they won't be too ling in...

    Ash trees...Good News!

I hope these scientists give the recipe for the concoction they used to help germinate the Ash seeds - and soon. The Japanese White Bark Beech ('Fagus cranata' or 'Buna') is in decline. Over the last five/six years I've attempted to get the 'seeds' from these to germinate - having obtained the...

    Ash trees...Good News!

Channel 4 news... I'd heard from somewhere that some Ash trees appeared to be fighting back (as such) and regenerating from the fungus cause... but https://www.channel4.com/news/hope-for-britains-ash-trees-thanks-to-scientific-eureka-moment

When people get the wrong idea.

I'm sure this little tale of mine fits in with your heading if I may add to it - except for the end of your post... As a 15 year old I came across some books on Falconry in Oldham library... Fast forward to September 27th 1972 (I was 21½ years old tothe day) and had purchased a Lanner falcon...

When people get the wrong idea.

Up until the last paragraph Bob, I was going to select the 😂 reaction emoji for your description of the old lady taking you to task for 'removing the sand from Blackpool each... and the antics of your mate on straightening up the pipe - and slashing the bags, grabbing the dozer bucket... It's...

    Secondary glazing

Yes, it was both @Windows - especially with the plumbing side and getting the hole dug for a 'Klargester' septic unit... as well as the fun the driver had delivering it ½ a mile down a dirt track. The only book that I can remember (still have somewhere? ) was for the electrics/wiring and...

    Secondary glazing

Great WIP posting @Windows -'wish the Internet and such forums had been available back in the early 1980s... We moved up to a derelict farmhouse on the West Yorkshire moors on my 30th birthday of all things... I'll not go through the ups and downs of such a move from Bath to such a place. All...

    Planer thicknesser?

For me it was/is the only machine that I could accommodate in my small workshop area - and plane up to 12½" wide boards. I do have the Triton 7"/180mm *plane* which I can use for planing face/edge but need to make a jig/holder to house it in an inverted position. To date I've been able to plane...

    Planer thicknesser?

If just looking for a "lunchbox" thicknesser (from what I see looking the Metabo DH330 up on Google) I only have experience with the Triton TPT125 thicknesser - same thing... a lunchbox thicknesser. I've been using mine recently to clean up the yew timber I have - up to 3" sawn thickness by...

Welcome Andy... interesting piece to introduce yourself with 😍... very nice. Quite a few years ago I turned a couple of pierced spiral Arabian style falconry blocks in Yew - base stand similar to yours but a solid block on top - using the Trend Router Lathe. It's been some time since I did any...

Ian’s new workshop. The Wonky Donkey. Ceiling joists started

Just did a check for prices here Ian... gone up quite a bit since I got mine. May still be worth considering though as once up there's no maintenance, just a wipe over or put the hoover (or point a blower) on/at it to remove dust. Doesn't get damaged like plasterboard would if you bang a piece...

Ian’s new workshop. The Wonky Donkey. Ceiling joists started

It's coming on well Ian. I don't fancy doing the drywall and 'mudding' thing so wish you well in doing it. I used 1.5mm~2mm (forget which) white plastic wall sheeting. They came as 8'x4'... stuck to the OSB lining fixed to the concrete block walls. Bit of a wobble when cutting to height as...

Yew... your thoughts before possibility of offering for sale?

Gives me something to work on - 'though I'm more used to imperial measure than metric 😉. Top and bottom may be a struggle at 12" width... willing to join the bottom? *and top* if no 12"/30cm available? (Added after posting). What thickness?

We used to have this place, just ½ mile down the road... now closed and no idea what will happen with the place. Sad really loosing something like this. https://bl.ag/found-in-frome-moore-and-sons-farm-and-feed-ephemera/

Yew... your thoughts before possibility of offering for sale?

I've quite a range of sizes Rob... may help me if you give me an idea of what sizes you would want so I've an idea what to look for... possibly a DM? I've square edged boards as well as waney edged... variety of widths.

Yew... your thoughts before possibility of offering for sale?

(@Woodbloke ) Rob... I'm sure I've something that would be more suitable in my stocks of yew... possibly already close to a more acceptable thickness and widths for (jewellery) box making so less wasteful for you. But... I'm not wanting to turn this into a selling post and go against forum...

Yew... your thoughts before possibility of offering for sale?

Thanks Ian (@Cabinetman )... it's a beautiful timber and I made some beautiful (if I say it myself) Arabian style falconry blocks from it. I was asked to make a set of 12 for the then Scottish Academy of Falconry. I also made a case for them to fit into. Somewhere there's a couple of photos of...
