• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Dehumidifiers

I use Trotec myself, but that brand might not be available where you are. One of my employees had a large Bloomfold dehumidifier that he was really happy with. Maybe those are available in your region.

    Thorn? That’s not a thorn!

And I thought the sea buckthorn I had to cut was nasty...

    Dehumidifiers

We have been using a couple of Trotec machines to get the humidity in the souterrain (70m2) and basement (15m2) in both our houses down to the generally accepted comfort level. It really makes those places much nicer to be in. You really feel and smell the difference. We use one room in the...

    Trailer Canopy

Sadly, this is in a rural area... Ah, that wouldn't be the case over here. You pay a one-time administrative fee, but that's it.

    Trailer Canopy

For those of us who do have the land (apart from farmers not many do) and want such a structure it would be an uphill battle to get permission to build it. Most people I know who wanted this have not managed to get the permission needed, and many others haven't even tried. I know of someone who...

Another couple of hours in the shed.

Nice! I really should take the time to learn woodturning myself. Really useful skill to add to my skill set.

    Bundwerk barn

What a pleasure for the eyes... Thanks for posting this. Makes me think of my youth when I lived in Germany. Although most houses were a bit less elaborate being "just" Fachwerkhauser.

    The Well Builder

Malcolm: I have lived in Germany as a child and have no trouble understanding most accents you'll find over there. But even I had to concentrate to follow what was said. Many Germans have a hard time understanding them too, so no wonder you couldn't keep up. ;)

Spot for a cabin, delayed for 5 years, maybe this year.

That ladder system is something I'll be sure to remember. Never thought of it myself. But it sure is handy when you are working on your own (as I most often do). Thanks for that sir! Most useful.

    Impressive pace... !!!

Spot for a cabin, delayed for 5 years, maybe this year.

What about leaving it where it is and and instead make a pathway of (elevated) planks from the house to it? That makes for a better trip to it in the middle of the night. No tripping over roots with a sleepy head and such... Another thing I have learned is to make sure there is some flat...

It's that time of the year again

Strictly seen you are right. I have been told the same. However everyone around here just plucks them as they have done for centuries. Seems it is working just fine for them. The mushrooms are only the "fruits" of the fungi in the ground. As long as the fungi themselves are conserved you will...

It's that time of the year again

Indeed, chanterelles or kantareller, as they are known around here. It takes a bit of work to get them clean with a brush. But it is worth the effort. When done well, they taste a little bit like egg. I like them with finely chopped onion, a bit of *fresh* garlic (or garlic scape if I can get...

It's that time of the year again

We found out we were even more lucky with our new house than we thought. This is what I found in (on?) the driveway. There's more all over the plot. Yummy!

I share your preference for option B. You mention "cladding", which suggests thinner planks. And I suspect you have thought about rot prevention more than I have, but just to be sure I'll mention it anyway. I've always been told it is better for durability to orient the planks vertically and to...

Nope. It just is easier that way. Beats digging a latrine or burying all that s**t (pun intended). You just pull the steel box out with a rope and pour over kerosene. I've been told the stuff that's left after the burning used to be used as fertiliser in the past. Not sure if that is true, or if...

Ah, we have such "outhouses" up North here in Sweden too. Twice a year I pull out the collector underneath, pour kerosene on it and burn whatever's in it. Works like a charm, but it's not always as nice in winter when it is -20°C.

Playing about with a big tap holder part 1

That is almost tool porn to me! Thanks for the pictures. If I ever encounter something like it I will definitely grab it for my workshop.

Playing about with a big tap holder part 1

The one in front I have seen variations of, but the one in the back I had never seen. Thanks for the additional photos! I will definitely try to find more information on this type of drill.

Bed - Finished and sleepable inable!

The Veritas Domino Joinery Table is a bit cheaper than the Woodpeckers version, but still a lot of money. As I wrote in #62 it is really easy to build yourself. Ola has made all information you need available. See and for an introduction. In some situations, it really is a very helpful...
