• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

The worst safety glasses I've ever had the misfortune to buy. But SUPERB service from Uvex

You don't know comfort until you try on a pair without the wrap around ear piece.. (courtesy of the dog) Had a few pairs of those, and even some without. Not quite so convenient requiring builders line. :ROFLMAO:

I've seen them listed as acorn nuts aswell.

Moving house - spindle moulder dilemma

Well I might have half of it, it's part of an old tablesaw where there should really be a spindle but just joking really, as there seems to be little value of these machines. (one on the other place was/is going for free in Essex, with tooling, which someone just offered cash for, ) . I know...

Moving house - spindle moulder dilemma

That li'l Dominion spindle is just too cute, I'd love to see more. Looks kinda like something which one could possibly make for themselves, if they had some bits and bobs, but no funds to buy a 500 quid Wadkin of some sort down the road. 🙃

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Got the retaining lip thingy welded up, not without a fight I might add!. 😅 Might need a bit of a scrape in spots, must look for another marker for the job. Went well enough, though I ended up with it on the wrong side, as there's evidence of a little bracket on the top side, though not enough...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Got the first disc/insert ring fitted for the next job and cut four rings from some pipe The vice came in handy for getting the fit right and ground some chamfers to get them welded up

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Drilled the plates out to 8mm which I presume would be the smallest I'd need, say for a 1/4" bit should that be of any use. Not really sure what would be the best choice, if my half inch straight bit arrives for the router, it may be the only one I'll have for a while... The pair of...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Just a little update on things so far, not got much done since as the weathers been good. You might note the marker used to ensure I don't go beyond the line at the far end of the cut Which leaves a little "tenting" to be removed... which I can't say I done satisfactory trying various things on...

Interesting veneering video on making a star pattern

Hello again I've taken some more screenshots of things, as I guess at thirty five minutes long... the video is too long for some folks to watch. It seems some wire crossing has happened, as I didn't think posting the whole show might be necessary, and instead mentioned specifically the two tips...

Interesting veneering video on making a star pattern

But have you ever seen before, or have needed to use the tip of flipping the segments in order to get the best colour match, since you've used presumably veneer which you've sawn yourself.. or indeed perhaps if a pack didn't make the cut? Likewise, the grouping the veneers to suit the grain...

    Artificial Intelligence

Does, or will anyone be attempting to learn from AI in the next decade? It seems a very similar write up between both of those folks. It kinda seems like there needs to be or there will be a wiki citation option for those who actually want straight answers, proof of claims and whatnot. In a...

    Combination machine a wise move?

My own personal take on the matter, is that I'm not really in a position to do things any differently.. i.e the goal of having a no overheads workshop, (without real heavy duty stuff like a PT or whatever) and one which could be moved and made functional somewhere else without too much bother...

    Combination machine a wise move?

I can well imagine how much difference the floor makes, specifically for a PT, that is, a rather heavy machine compared... as I've had to make changes to my tablesaw mobile base design, to accomodate captured feet. I've had to have my saw in this exact position, (which took a lot of trial &...

    Ahm Ai bovvered?

I wouldn't be surprised if the conglomerate decided to do the same as what they've done to the other forums, i.e lumberjocks, my tractor forum, and some German Shepherd forums, i.e blank the screen off completely, (text and pictures, that is).. until presumably singed in? Doesn't to me, seem...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Thanks Andy, how you managed to find that, never heard of Robert Frohn before. I must give the stamp another bit of a rub to see if the hammer is still the same shape, just to see if that might give some more clues as to whether the name might have changed hands, since I don't see any other...

I was referring to the cold chisel Andy, if indeed that's what it's called. Perhaps it might have some other term. should it be intended for stonemasons, blacksmiths or another craftsperson? @vaj Cheers, hoping the rest of the work goes as smoothly. All the best Tom

Just about finished tidying up the hole. I'd love to know what this makers mark is...anybody? That's after four thumps IIRC Turned over and repeated Started with a triangular file Needed to do some essential Feng Shui for comfort to proceed I'd say I only got lucky that I didn't go...

Do we need more money in the meter ?

Are you hitting the insert image icon on the top?... I don't think that works for my computer. Have you tried simply dragging the picture onto where your writing, that's one of the best things about the site upgrade. All the best Tom

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Found a 16mm washer, and marked out the underside to see if it looked OK... Seems I might be able to get away with a bit of filing those holes without them becoming overly enlarged... not sure yet. Made a start on the big ole Not a great setup, as I was only messing about really This could...

Router table insert plate build (rings laad)

Went out and checked what size bits I had, just to see if I was lucky one of the bits from liddles, or indeed the straight cutter in the medium sized router might be 18mm, but the closest in size is 16mm in the box. Whilst digging out that router, I did however find some sort of bush for it...
