• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Old school centre mount hinges

Normally pretty good with search terms but this one has drawn a blank. I need a centre mount runner the old type with the wheels to fit into existing drawers. Couldn’t find any, so bought a replacement drawer box instead with bottom mounted runners but it is so rubbish! The movement up and...

    Tumble dryer

I’m with Andy, when you can’t dry outside we use a dehumidifier and the spare room.

    80th birthday cake ideas?

I know it misses the brief for the children having coffee syrup but is there a more impressive cake than Opera?

    Fish Dishes?

I love fish but do try and limit consumption of sea fish. We get it direct when we do go to the coast but I try to limit buying from supermarkets, just because of the destruction caused by the fishing industry. I love freshwater trout, our farmshop has it at when it's in season, and I stock...

    'Owl' Cabinet....Dun

Interesting cabinet, I don't normally like things too fussy - but the little details are quite unusual on that. Does your door have the gap like the original, slightly different photo angles so it is difficult to tell.

    Kitchen Table - Finished!

Not been in this thread for a while, such high quality work. I love the attention to detail with the brass underneath that no one will ever see. Top stuff (y)

    Oak coffee table - finished!

Your bandsaw would be quicker and accurate. Not sure Andy's little bandsaw could manage it!

    Oak coffee table - finished!

Good write up as ever, the plough plane / saw combo looks to be a very effective way to get through a large chunk of oak!

I have been such a bloody fool

Going back to early comments on the 100 day cough it can be pretty bad. I'm a fit 40 something but do have asthma. Had COVID last October quickly followed with a cough/cold had a month of coughing so bad that I could barely move with chest pains and still have a cough now. Not looking forward...

    A Japanese style garden shed

Enjoying all the fine woodwork, and had completely forgotten this was a normal "shed"! The tools hanging up caught me by surprise. I've not been to Japan but I have always thought although elegant Japanes traditional building methods look cold and drafty to live in!

    Butterflies

It's been so cold this year, we've seen a lot less in our garden too.

    Beemageddon

Sorry Adrian, must have been very upsetting. So many bees dying at the moment - it's both sad and concerning! A local honey seller posted the other day about losing potentially all the hives in an orchard to CBPV? From the photo it looked like there were 7 or so. It's not the only other case of...

    Smart Meters

The first gen meters were a disgrace and should never have been installed - becoming obsolete when you changed providers was a joke! I went for a gen 2 meter with previous provider and it didn't work from day one. Even complaint to the Ombudsmen didn't sort it, they upheld that the supplier...

    Stool

That looks great - how did you find working with green wood and the pole lathe? Personally I love working with green even more that dry wood. Don’t know why.

Guess which crop is in flower.

I don't mind the smell, Hawthorn gets me though and we have lots around us.

    Ultra-processed food ?

Not ultra processed if made at home, but look at the list on a normal tub of Cornish ice cream from Sainsbury’s “INGREDIENTS: British Skimmed Cows' Milk, Sugar, Dried Glucose Syrup, Butteroil (Cows' Milk), Skimmed Cows' Milk Powder, British Clotted Cream (Cows' Milk) (3.0%), Emulsifier: Mono-...

Ultra unprocessed foods with zero food miles

Quite far ahead on us here. Redcurrants only starting to blush red. Picked more strawberries and yellow raspberries than ever before. Constant supply for on our porridge.

    Ultra-processed food ?

An easy way to think about the ultra processed / processed is processed food is stuff that your grandparents would have had, think bacon, citric acid etc. We eat nettles occasionally, really should do it more often as I think the soup is excellent. Did you also know the stems can be used to...

    Ultra-processed food ?

That book pictured earlier has made us change our diet. We used to make most of our food from scratch but the stereotypical busy life / convenience factor was creeping in. We were still cooking from scratch for meals but its snacks and lunches which I find it’s easy to eat ultra processed...
